One wouldn't usually expect almost any given European to be familiar with a small Luxembourg community with barely more than 5,000 inhabitants. But if that community is Schengen, well, things are different. The Schengen Agreement was first signed in 1985 – by Germany, France, and the BeNeLux countries, aboard a passenger ship at berth in Schengen – and entered into force in 1995. And ever since then, traveling in Europe has been so much easier for many people. But what about the village of Schengen itself? Well, it has the European Museum and a number of European Monuments (including pieces of the Berlin Wall, no less!), but also a castle with baroque gardens and a church which also contains a nod to Europe: for the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Schengen Agreement, an icon was commissioned depicting the patron saints of Europe and the twelve stars. #citiesofeurope #europeanunion #schengen Image by Pixabay

Our scheduled talks are now taking shape. for Ireland, the UK, and the US. https://lnkd.in/epBeXP2z Mr. Mahmoud Abbas presented an eloquent speech at the UNGA and got applauded. Thanks to whoever is his speech writer. By contrast, war criminal and genocide lord Netanyahu was almost a persona non grata at the UN. Most delegates of countries chose not to attend or walked out as he walked in (he had brought a few racist Zionists to attend as audience and to cheer him). But these are side shows to an ongoing GENOCIDE. We live in a world where only strength seems understood and the UN has become a hollow chamber where politicians meet to state their positions and the US and great powers continue supporting genocide. Only thing challenging them is non-state actors (guerrilla forces/liberation movements). Abbas will need to do something different than what he was willing to do for the past 15 years: 1) end corruption (starting with his office then the foreign service then down the line, 2) stop hanging on to the golden chair and to the illusion of Oslo, 3) really implement reconciliation and joint work with Ha.mas and other resistance forces. That would mean no longer holding on to a dictatorial role of deciding the future of the Palestinian struggle by himself while promoting the most incompetent and corrupt people to positions of power. Democracy and transparency are non-negotiable. Here is an article I wrote about "A Path Forward" in Z Magazine https://lnkd.in/ea-TS4Na and another on The Importance of Urban Eco-gardens for Biodiversity and Human Sustainability: A Case Study from Palestine https://lnkd.in/eAaYetts And I just noted this paper published a while ago that I had never mentioned or listed in our publications: Arab American Activism for Palestine. Pp. 279-294 in “Diaspora and Identity: the case of Palestine” (Mitri Raheb, ed.). 🤝 Dear friends, after years of waiting for sponsorship, and presentations of this event in Salvador - Bahia - Brazil, I am here to communicate our progress. We have a project ready here, without money. I chose the large events sector in a toxic environment as a small businessman and in a political and economic situation that doesn't fit me in a place that is suitable for the event I created. The current Brazil has been considered a defeated trajectory from 2010 until now, promising a strengthening of the State's action in the cultural area. In addition, and despite a reconstructive proposal, which I must consider weak and corrupt, given the result of my work in the creation of the event. I don't maintain such models out of habit. How was the appraisal made for the last five years during the event's creation in Salvador? First, I emphasize that the "global south" is full of small and large dictatorships. Considering the aphorism of environmental stewardship, global citizens recognize their interconnectedness with the planet, fostering sustainable practices. This is not true! And it won't be anytime soon! The situation affects me, and not only in terms of the environmental crisis, which is one of the issues that the Conference on Indigenous and Quilombola Crafts will shed light on. Secondly, the prevailing policy of the current Brazilian government avoids and silences advantages in some profiles, which has not been fulfilled. Bywords that threatened the total value of the sponsorship requested all these years. We all know we are moving towards peaceful coexistence and cultural sensitivity, rejecting discrimination and striving for a world where everyone is treated with dignity. At the same time, I understand that Art encourages artists to win through the war caused by the failure to comply with peace. Unfortunately, Brazil today can only meet with me a measly 10% of what was proposed in our budget and, in addition, places me in an environment in which I have no place, nor memory. #eventos #cultura #entrevista #vídeo #trabalho #artesanato #craftbusiness #craftmarketing #indigenouspeople #quilombola #feiradeartesanatonorteenordeste #salvador #bahia #brazil
