What if owning an electric vehicle in Africa was as easy as a subscription? New models are making EV ownership more accessible and sustainable. #Electricvehicles (EVs) are changing the game in Africa, with solutions like subscription services, shared ownership, and battery leasing. These models lower costs and offer flexibility, making EVs more affordable for younger generations and gig economy workers. Why does this matter? Subscription services like MAX in Nigeria and SPIRO in Kenya cover maintenance and charging, while platforms like #LÜLA in South Africa offer shared ownership to reduce costs. Companies like Zeno in East Africa are also making electric motorcycles affordable for boda boda drivers with battery leasing. These innovations not only make EVs more accessible but also support local economies and create a greener future for Africa's transportation. We're thrilled to announce several exciting developments driving electric vehicle (EV) accessibility in Kenya! As our President, William Samoei Ruto, PhD, is on his historic trip to the United States of America, this week, Mogo Kenya signed a commitment letter with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation for a $10 million loan to finance electric vehicles. The two-wheeler EV market's growth in Africa is scaling up and Mogo Kenya remains committed to making EVs accessible to all Kenyans. We're actively developing financial products to address the challenge of EV affordability for the underbanked population. In the last month alone, we have financed close to 100 EVs in Kenya. Additionally, we recently opened our first dedicated EV branch in Nairobi, located at Rubis, Jogoo Road. These are significant milestones for MOGO Kenya and the Eleving Group. It's a testament to the positive impact we're making on Kenya's transition to a greener future. We are happy to be part of the ceremony at the White House welcoming Kenyan President William Ruto to the United States. Witnessing Kenya & US sharing the same democratic values and leading the path to a better world was truly inspiring. BV Thailand is proud to be a partner in Asia's first carbon credit purchase project under the ‘'Bangkok E-Bus Programme'. The Bangkok E-Bus Programme, owned by Energy Absolute PCL (EA), is the first authorised programme under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement in Asia and the second worldwide. Aiming to transition Bangkok's privately operated e-bus fleet from conventional to electric vehicles, the transaction marks a significant leap in Thailand's journey towards electric vehicle adoption and emissions reduction. The Swiss-based KliK Foundation initiated this groundbreaking transaction by acquiring Internationally Transferable Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) from Thai Smile Bus Co. Ltd., making this a historic emission reduction alliance between Switzerland and Thailand. Acting as an impartial third-party entity, BV Thailand validated the project's legitimacy and verified emission reductions, ensuring the precision and transparency of carbon credit outcomes. BasiGo has secured KSh1.3 billion from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to boost local assembly of its electric buses in Kenya. This significant investment will help BasiGo meet its substantial orders from Nairobi matatu operators, who have placed over 500 reservations. The funding will also support the creation of at least 300 green manufacturing jobs, enhancing both production capabilities and local employment. The new facility will enable BasiGo to increase its monthly production from five to 20 buses, with a long-term goal of delivering 1,000 electric buses within the next three years. Additionally, the investment will facilitate the expansion of BasiGo’s Pay-As-You-Drive model, providing operators with continuous access to charging infrastructure and supporting the broader adoption of electric vehicles in Nairobi. This investment is part of a larger KSh32.3 billion initiative announced by DFC during President Ruto’s US tour in May. By the end of March this year, BasiGo’s electric vehicles had already driven 1.5 million kilometres in Kenya, transporting 2.1 million passengers and avoiding over 680 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The new guidelines released by the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for electric vehicle charging and battery swapping, effective from September, will further support the sector's growth. These rules aim to make EV charging infrastructure more accessible, promote affordable tariffs, and accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Kenya. #ElectricVehicles #GreenEnergy #SustainableTransport #Kenya #CleanTechnology #Investment To read more: https://zurl.co/YrjL
