Some interesting findings from this report indicating the impact of Sure Start programmes: ‘Access to a nearby Sure Start centre between ages 0 and 4 significantly reduced youth crime that resulted in convictions or custodial sentences. Living within 2.5 kilometres of a Sure Start centre reduced the share of 16-year-olds who had ever received a criminal conviction by 13%. Meanwhile, custodial sentences – the most severe sanction – fell by a fifth due to access to Sure Start. Reductions in youth offending were concentrated on convictions for theft, the most common category of offence (20% reduction), and for drug offences (20% reduction)’. Original report can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/dVSZ33VX.
Support for children under the age of five through the Sure Start programme “significantly reduced” the chances of entering the youth custody estate when they reached adolescence, a report has found.

"If the outcome we want by charging teens as adults is retribution, we have succeeded. But as a community member, I want laws based on facts we know to be true, and solutions proven to work, rather than those based on fears and appearing tough on crime. As a parent, I want laws aimed at preventing crime, not just punishing it, because I want my family to be safe and healthy. I am not alone in that as a lawyer, parent or crime victim. We have had years of policies that appear tough on crime but do not prevent crime from happening. Ending the automatic charging of teens as adults is in all of our best interests and will make our communities safer." https://lnkd.in/eAGFcTYy

Tell us again that knife crime isn’t an urgent community issue. Day two of the school holidays, and another young man has lost his life to a blade. Knife crime disproportionately affects young people, particularly males aged 15-24, with many incidents occurring in public spaces. These are not isolated events - they’re a reflection of the immense pressures facing families, schools, and communities: economic hardship, lack of resources, and overwhelmed support services. The focus must be on early intervention - connecting with young men before it’s too late. We need accessible, ongoing initiatives that offer mentorship, purpose, and a sense of belonging. And to those who profit from glorifying violence: it’s time to step up, take responsibility, and invest in real solutions.

Imagine being denied access to money in your own bank account; not being permitted to get your own cell phone; not being consulted about an important health decision; or being turned away when trying to open an RDSP because you have an intellectual disability. These are some of the scenarios families regularly face. P4P’s Action Guide on Legal Rights and Supported Decision Making is an excellent resource families can use to help outline what their options are in these and other situations. Sadly, in #AusPol #Police #Health & #Housing dismiss, devalue and trivialise concerns expressed by women. This is violence against women. Often trivialised women who have experienced and attempt to leave Domestic Violence are deemed to have mental health issues, panic attacks. Violence against women is dismissing women suggesting mental health when those who fail to listen are complicit, complacent, corrupt or complacent. Women are being silenced with excessive mental health diagnoses which in turn means services can mistreat, ignore or worse joyfully neglect and place in grave danger. Normal women complaining of dangerous and unsafe conditions and environments flood disaster accommodation are denied equal treatment, denied ability to report abuse or physical harm in Dept facilities and activities, yet Dept continues to place them in unsafe housing, refuse to accept Police reports and subject them to criminal activity and deadly conditions exposing them to abuse and criminal lifestyles. MentalHealth Diagnosis in lieu of customer service, lawfully duties to assist, provide non discriminatory services & treatment. Govt Dept support criminals and fail good women. Australian govt services are dangerous for women. Relying on our Govt is deadly. Ie safe DV accommodation, flood disaster response and services to women, normal women placed in flood accommodation with drug addicts, rapists, alcoholics, peodophiles. In Aust Prisoners receive better accommodation and support than women. Women need ti be protected in Australia @ChrisMinnsMP @AlboMP @guardian @Channel7 @Channel10AU
Admitted Lawyer, Sexual Violence and DFV Prevention Advocate, Chair of NWSA Sexual Violence Working Group
Why do media keep reporting and accepting that he was out on bail for 'serious unrelated charges'? What were these charges? Depending on the nature of charges, these may not be 'unrelated', as they might indicate an increased or elevated dfv risk? They may be evidence of his lack of boundaries, general lawlessness, inability to follow court orders or direction or perhaps he had nothing to lose. A failure to comply with authority and violence outside of the relationship by perpetrators of dfv are known risk factors. And we now know, from this article, the police were aware of a history of dfv and it was likely escalating. "According to 9News, Young was on bail for serious unrelated offences at the time of McGuire’s alleged murder. Young will remain in custody until he faces court in September. He and his father are also reportedly facing unrelated charges for assault and burglary."
Hannah McGuire reportedly sought help from police before her alleged murder

Undisciplined children become increasingly undisciplined youths who are acting in youth crime. Society has lost its ways of raising a child due to the innovation in the system. The system has significantly increased enabling children's behaviour and disempowering the parents to discipline their children based on the child's rights. But society is losing the moral of child upbringing. Despite what the government does, youth will continue to escalate because the parents have no power to correct their child's behaviour at a young age. Today society will deeply discipline as physical abuse. Encouragingly, society needs to reflect and see what has changed and why youth crimes are significantly increasing. Once this initiative is taken, the solution can be found.

Big Tech has gotten their hands on the #StopCSAMAct and convinced lawmakers to add a get-out-of-jail-free card. Within Section 2255A of this bill, an impossible standard has been added which will harm children more than protect them. Every case brought against Big Tech will be sunk. As a whole, parents are winning against Big Tech, but Section 2255A of the Stop CSAM Act will take back the gains we’ve made. HERE’S WHAT WE CAN DO: Please sign our letter asking lawmakers to DELETE SECTION 2255A — then pass the Stop CSAM Act. (link below)
