I wrote a UX design skills roadmap focused on beginners. Why? I've taught at a few boot camps and spoken to enough students there to conclude that they aren't working. There is a lot of emphasis on tools. Which is not the problem on its own. The problem is not enough, if at all, focus on the design mindset. It's so bad that I'd say to anyone thinking about learning UX design to learn by yourself. All the knowledge is freely available on the internet. Use this roadmap to guide your study, or use gen AI to make a curriculum for yourself. Having said that, if developing a design mindset sounds like something you'd be interested in, DM me. I want to find an alternative to this bootcamp education culture. #ux #design #roadmap #career #designeducation

🎯 𝐀𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟒 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐗 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 & 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐈'𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭. The landscape has changed dramatically.💭 Whilst UX roles once emphasised deep user understanding and journey mapping...👉 Today's market increasingly demands hybrid UX/UI and Product Design roles with a heavy focus on visual design skills. 𝐀𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨'𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐔𝐗 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐈'𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝-𝐨𝐧. 💡 The truth? I need to evolve. And I suspect I'm not alone. 🚀 Taking Action: I'm embarking on the 100 Days of UI Challenge to strengthen my visual design muscles. But this is just the beginning.🤔 To my fellow UX practitioners feeling this shift: How are you adapting? I'm particularly interested in: 🎯 Communities focused on UX-to-UI transition 🛠️ Real-world projects for skill building 🤝 Mentorship opportunities 📚 Resources beyond the usual Coursera/Udemy courses 🚀 Something different from a bootcamp teaching about UX Design and Research, because really I do have these skills nailed down. It's showcasing UI I want and need to focus on. 💭 Questions for the community: How are you bridging the UI gap whilst maintaining your UX expertise? What resources have truly made a difference in your journey? Are you seeing this shift in your local market too? 👥 To hiring managers: Are we potentially losing valuable UX insights in this rush towards visual-first design? How do you balance these competing needs in your teams? Let's start a conversation about staying relevant whilst preserving the core UX principles that drive meaningful user experiences. 🤝 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭? Headline: Embark on Your UX Journey: Mastering "Empathize, Define, Ideate"! Body: "Completing online courses is no small feat; it requires unwavering commitment and laser-sharp focus. Thus, I'm thrilled to announce my successful completion of 'Start the UX Design Process: Empathize, Define, Ideate.' This course served as a comprehensive gateway into the realm of UX design, delving deep into its foundational phases – empathizing with user needs, crystallizing them into actionable objectives, and unleashing boundless creativity in ideation. One aspect that truly captivated me was the emphasis on empathy in user-centered design. Exploring user research methodologies like personas and journey maps laid a robust groundwork for crafting impactful designs. In tandem with the course, I supplemented my learning with insightful resources such as 'Don Norman's The Design of Everyday Things' and 'Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think,' enriching my understanding of user-centric principles. Eagerly anticipating the continued exploration of UX design, I'm propelled by the conviction that learning is a lifelong journey.
