To be culturally responsive and student-centered teaching, I think it's crucial to teach our students how to learn and succeed in higher education. I understand we have a densely packed curriculum in STEM that seems impossible to cover study skills. Over the years, I observed more and more students aren't taught how to learn effectively in STEM and use low-impact inefficient learning strategies such as re-reading notes. It becomes an equity issue as students work more hours supporting themselves leaving less time to study. Coupled with ineffective study strategies, their learnings suffer.
