🌱 Fostering collaboration for collective climate action, Atomic's inaugural ski industry climate summit led to the climate pact governed by the Wintersports Sustainability Network. It publicly formalizes the hard goods industry’s commitment to combating climate change and charting a course towards a net-zero carbon emissions future. All signees agreed to join the UN's Race2Zero by the end of 2024. 🌍 To enable other brands and companies from the wintersports hard-goods sector, Atomic will Co-Chair the Climate Working Group in the WSN. We encourage all brands who have not yet joined the WSN Climate Pact or who want to understand where to start and what partner initiatives they can join for the Race2Zero. https://lnkd.in/dbP4Bytv

SDG 13 calls for taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Key fact: the ten warmest years on record (between 1880 and 2020) all occurred on or after 2005... ...so what can golf do about it? - Ban all single use plastic use on property. - Develop a climate action plan in accordance with state and local goals. - Create a public relations campaign to promote programs and encourage other civic leaders and community stakeholders to join. Devilbend Golf Club - Climate Aware and ESG Focussed Kudos to General Manager Tim O’Sullivan, Superintendent Trevor U’Ren, and the Committee at Devilbend Golf Club for examining the risks and exploring adaption and mitigation opportunities for the club to thrive in a changing climate. The club’s climate-ready journey began with the epar Climate Literacy Workshop, where club management, the Committee, and staff took a deep dive into the science of climate change and its implications for people, for golf, and the planet. Then, using the advanced climate simulator EN-ROADS, the workshop examined key risks under current warming scenarios, including: 🔥 Increased Wildfire Danger Days ☀️ Higher Frequency of Extreme Heat 🛠️ Outdoor Labour Losses from Extreme Heat ⚡ Energy Types and Costs 🌵 Ecosystem Shifts and Arid Expansion 🌽 Decreases in Crop Yields from Warming 🌬️ Air Pollution From Energy Types 🌦️ Shifting Weather Patterns and Ecosystems We also challenged the club to identify actionable strategies to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and they successfully rose to this challenge, identifying a range of impactful actions to help limit global warming to under 2°C. The club has started utilising the epar SMART Map in readiness to make visible to all stakeholders its sustainability initiatives. Next steps will include the club’s ESG Policy and the epar Low Water Availability Response Plan showcasing the club as an efficient manager of water resources amid growing climate pressures. Congratulations to the entire team of trailblazers at Devilbend Golf Club for setting a powerful example for clubs everywhere!

Sport England’s Pedal for Paris began this week with Chris Boardman and multi-Olympic medallist and UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger cycling from Manchester to Paris. Chris and Katherine will be joined by a host of other high-profile participants along the way. They began on 16th July and will arrive in Paris on 23rd July. Pedal for Paris references not just the host city for this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics but also the Paris Agreement, the landmark international treaty on climate change signed in December 2015. The aim of the ride is to urge greater action to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and encourage our sector to accelerate action in pursuit of this goal. It follows the launch of Every Move, Sport England's ambitious strategy to promote environmental sustainability, including more than £40 million of new funding to promote green innovation and participation, and helping sport and physical activity organisations become more resilient to climate change.
