The EU supports investment in cycling infrastructure, pedestrian-friendly cities, and sustainable urban mobility plans to create greener, healthier urban spaces. How many laps of a 6.7km track is possible when there is no finish line? 28ForCOP28 was a test of the mind and body, 28 hours running round a track to celebrate and draw attention to #COP28UAE. And it taught me a lot on what could be achieved, so let's test things further in July when I attempt the Highlander Last One Standing event in Scotland. The format? Run 6.7km on the hour every hour until there is only one person left. If you take 45 mins then you get 15 mins rest, but you have to be at the start by the time the gun goes again. Course record is 39 loops (39 hours), my target? ......let's see 😀 Why do this? Important to have a target in the year, longer/faster/higher. Choose one - 2 years ago it was all about a PB in the marathon. Last hear it was trying to go higher with the UTMB vertical target of 10,000m on the long mountain ultras. Then it changed due to weather cancellations to longer when I ran 28ForCOP28. As long-time connections may know, for the last few years I have been cycling with a bunch of sustainability people led by Do Nation, first for #COP26 (London-Glasgow) and #COP27 (Swansea-London). For several reasons the ride this time doesn't coincide with the COP, but it does coincide with #EarthDay! We're cycling London-Brussels over four days (then I'll be heading home solo via Normandy). Looking forward to joining colleagues welcoming Pedal 4 Paris at Loughborough University on 17th July #cycling #sustainability #Paris2024 #ParisAgreement #ClimateChange Starting at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on 16 July and finishing in Paris on 23 July, Chris Boardman MBE will be joined by multi-Olympic medallist and UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger and a host of other high-profile participants. Pedal for Paris references not just the host city for this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics but also the Paris Agreement, the landmark international treaty on climate change signed in December 2015. The aim of the ride is to urge greater action to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and encourage our sector to accelerate action in pursuit of this goal. It follows the launch of Sport England's ambitious strategy to promote environmental sustainability, including more than £40 million of new funding to promote green innovation and participation, and helping sport and physical activity organisations become more resilient to climate change. Looking ahead to the ride, Chris Boardman MBE said: "We’re excited to be shining a light on some of the most inspirational and innovative people and projects who are putting the environment first. "Climate change is already impacting people getting active so we must act now. Leading up to Pedal For Paris, we want sport and physical activity organisations to sign the Going for Green pledge and commit to new ways to become more sustainable. Our Director of Sustainability and D&I, Sara Mariani, was at #COP29 this week - presenting the FIA’s vision for a greener future across mobility and motorsport.   During her interventions at the Global Ministerial for Greening Urban Transport and Sport for Climate Action event, she highlighted the importance of a collaborative, user-centric approach — which helps to bring everybody on the journey towards a just and sustainable future. Sara also represented the FIA at other key speaker events during the Conference fortnight, including the UNDESA' Public Transport at as a Climate Solution and Preparing for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport events.   This is the second time that the FIA has attended the Conference as Observer to the UNFCCC, and the very first time that we have contributed to a ministerial roundtable.   Read more about her interventions below: https://lnkd.in/gkketKep
