I am NOT attending EKF this year. ❌ Here is why. ✅ Yes, Deutsche Börse EKF is probably one of the best events for IROs & service providers to meet & mingle. ✅ Yes, it is one of the last events in 2024. ✅ And do I have FOMO when I see all of the photos on LinkedIn YES. So why not join? Aside from a project I am tied up on: This year I started to look a events, conferences, trips, speaker gigs etc though the lense of cost & opportunity - much more so than before. Cost in terms of time and money spend. Because everything you do or not do has a price tag either way. Concretely, for EKF this would be ticket price as well as hotel & transport. Which can easily add up to a few thousand EUR per person. But more so than money, it is time, which is even more so valuable to me. Every day I don't work ON my business is an opportunity cost for me. Being out for 3-4 days straight is just a big commitment. So, I took the conscious decision this year to work more ON my business than being present on all event, while stressing before during and after what I need to prepare and follow up on while managing all client work during the event and at night. Long nights and little sleep are also not really my cup of tea any more. It messes with my routines which I need to perform at my absolut best. Will I attend next year again? Likely. It's important to meet the community. But this year I'll take a break. To everyone who is there this week: I wish you a great time. I am sure it will be a blast. Dear all! Still fighting the jetlag but back home again from another not to have missed conference greatly organised by SIOR Global corporate team - a big THANK YOU to all who made this possible!
