The merging of these previously quite distinct industries: Grocery, Convenience and QSR, will mean a few key technologies, including digital commerce, are no longer a nice-to-have. They are imperative. Approximately 25 years ago, the first QSR's discovered the incredible power of Order Ahead, giving their customers the choice of not having to wait in a line. Many years later, Grocery fuelled the other customer segment that this technology appealed to - those that couldn't (or didn't want to!) leave home. I believe the Convenience industry is in the enviable position of being able to leverage what is now a relatively mature technology, to ensure they offer the ultimate in convenience to their customers. Newer, smaller players are making waves, like Pollo Campero! We regularly hear from our customers that they want to colocate with specific brands.
