With its long coastlines and strong wind resources, the country holds great potential for offshore wind #energy. However, recent developments have highlighted significant challenges like a complex permitting system and national security issues. In November 2023, the Swedish government rejected 13 offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea, citing defense concerns. Meanwhile, Sweden is transitioning from a developer-led system to a government-led system for offshore wind, aiming to better coordinate the #permitting process while addressing both security and #environmental considerations.
