~ TRAINING IN VINCENZA ~ ✨ 2 weeks ago we were in Vicenza with four local bodies from Malta, Bulgaria, Italy and Spain for the International Training of Multipliers organised by alda* - European Association for Local Democracy as part of the Focus project. The insightful training, led by Jakub Jaraczewski, was on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and how to train local actors on it. 💡 We all have rights, but if we do not know about them, we cannot claim them. This is why local actors are so important in spreading the awareness of human rights. 🔊Our mission with Human Rights Cities Network is to increase the number of human rights cities in Europe by 2050. So during this training, our team members Maria D'Incà and Julia Johnson presented the FRA’s framework for #humanrights #cities. Any city can become a human rights city; the first step is to learn how! ✨ Simply committing to the human rights based approach make a difference. #training

The European Heritage Days are the most widely celebrated participatory cultural event shared by the people of Europe. The Council of Europe launched the initiative in 1985, and in 1999 was joined by the European Union to create the joint action, which has continued up to the present day. Conceivably, the Programme, which can boast up to 20 million visitors every year, generates the greatest value, Euro for Euro, of any “European” cultural project. Held in September each year, EHD events – often called Heritage Open Days - take place in the countries party to the European Cultural Convention. The aims of the European Heritage Days are to: - raise the awareness of European citizens to the richness and cultural diversity of Europe - create a climate in which the appreciation of the rich mosaic of European cultures is stimulated - counter racism and xenophobia and encourage greater tolerance in Europe and beyond the national borders - inform the public and the political authorities about the need to protect cultural heritage against new threats - invite Europe to respond to the social, political and economic challenges it faces #formicals #teknikkimya #europeanheritagedays #europe #heritagedays

The Declaration on a New International Economic Order (NIEO) was adopted in May 1974 as a clarion call to the international community for building a post-colonial global order which would empower the #GlobalSouth, promote economic justice & reduce inequalities. #NIEO50 At the 50th anniversary of the #NIEO Declaration, it continues to be a call to engage in the comprehensive reform of the international architecture for global governance, finance, trade and sustainable development, so that it produces just and equitable outcomes for all. The United Nations Resolution to establish the NIEO led to important outcomes for Global South countries and communities, including paving the way for the 1986 Declaration on #RtD. There is no vibrant city without a lively cultural scene, and there will be no vibrant Europe without #culture. Culture is an engine for urban development and contributes directly to enhancing citizens' quality of life. Throughout Europe, mayors are committed to developing local cultural policies and projects that are low-carbon and more inclusive. Eurocities will keep advocating for cultural policies and activities that are greener and more inclusive. Our work will be led by two Shadow Commissioners who will advocate for a sustainable culture: 🔸Nicole Yardeni, deputy mayor of Toulouse 🔸Dejan Crnek, deputy mayor of Ljubljana #TeamLocalEurope

The mutual exchange of knowledge between Indigenous Peoples enriches communities, aiding in cultural preservation and sustainable development. The communities of Neyashiinigmiing (Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation) and Poroma in Bolivia had the chance to meet in person in Neyashiinigmiing for an Indigenous knowledge exchange where, bound by both commonalities and challenges, they were united in their determination of Indigenous solidarity, food security, and resilience. Today, for International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we honour Indigenous knowledge transmission and support the facilitation of these exchanges as a means of cultural healing, partnership strengthening, and mutual learning. Is Europe's cultural diversity its strength or a hurdle to unity? While our rich background of traditions, languages, and histories is undeniably valuable, it can also be a source of division. Could a common EU policy for cultural heritage be the bridge we need? By protecting and promoting shared monuments, traditions, and stories, we may forge a stronger sense of European identity, while still preserving our unique national cultures. This is not a simple solution, but it's a conversation worth having. #CulturalHeritage #EuropeanIdentity #EUPolicy
