Looking back at the past year feels like a rollercoaster ride. Graduating college was exciting, and getting a job felt like a big win. But then, unexpectedly, I got let go, and that shook my confidence. I've been following Ryan Estis for almost a year now, and his advice has really helped me grow. His stories and ideas make me think about how I can keep getting better every day. This post of his really hit home for me. It reminded me that it's okay to be imperfect and vulnerable when we're trying something new. Stories like John Mayer's show that taking a chance on ourselves, even when we're scared of failing, can lead to amazing things. Being open to feedback is key to improving, too. As I keep looking for jobs and working on my personal brand, I'm reminded that it's important to step out of my comfort zone and take risks. Even though the future is uncertain, I know that taking chances is how we grow. What's holding you back from taking a chance? #TakingChances #JobHunt #BuildingBrands #Growth
Last year, I witnessed John Mayer move off the setlist and play a brand-new song live for the very first time. He described the experience this way: “A new song, ‘In the Neighborhood,’ came bounding out before I had committed the lyrics to memory. But that’s how new songs sound when I play them for people after just writing them; they’re just barely within reach. I stayed up last night and reworked some chords (and yes, I got the lyrics straight) and can’t wait to play it again tomorrow night. I’ve never been this exposed before, and the beauty FAR outweighs the discomfort. These shows are building the bridge to my next album and keeping me true to myself in the process. What an experience this has become.” What a gift to watch an artist create and share what is on his heart in real time. I am grateful he had the confidence and humility to test it in Minnesota for the first time, and I take solace in imagining him up late into the night, in a suite at the Four Seasons, working out his chords. The beauty FAR outweighs the discomfort. I am reminding myself of exactly that for those moments when my own work isn’t within reach quite yet. This compels me to consider the following core tenets when creating something new. https://lnkd.in/gkrW5kwG #creativity #innovation #experimentation #creation
