The 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐀 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 is a 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞(⊛) situated offshore in the Troll gas field, off the west coast of Norway, now operated by Equinor. Its 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 is to extract natural gas from the North Sea.🛢️🌊 To this day, Troll A platform still holds the record as 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 ever moved by mankind, and 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 ever relocated. Here we have some fascinating details: ● 𝐃𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: ► Overall height: 𝟒𝟕𝟐 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 (1,549 feet). ► Weight: 𝟔𝟖𝟑,𝟔𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 (1.2 million tons with ballast). ► The platform stands on four legs extending down to the sea floor 𝟑𝟎𝟑 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 (994 feet) below the surface of the sea. ► The leg containing the import and export risers has an elevator that takes 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬 to travel from the platform above the waves to the sea floor. ● 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: ► The legs are made of 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐥-𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞 formed in one continuous pour. ► Each leg is a mathematically joined composite of several 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 that flare out smoothly to greater diameters at the top and bottom. ► The legs are sub-divided along their length into compartments that act as independent 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫-𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 compartments. ► A reinforced concrete box, known as a “𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫,” connects the legs and damps out any potentially destructive wave-leg resonances. ► The platform was penetrated 𝟑𝟔 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 into the soil. ► It is 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, requiring no further mooring. ● 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: ► The platform adheres to strict environmental regulations; in fact measures are in place to 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐳𝐞 the impact on marine ecosystems and wildlife. ► Regular inspections and maintenance ensure 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 and 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 compliance. Troll A exemplifies Norway’s expertise in offshore engineering and construction, seamlessly integrating 𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞.🏗️🌱 ●YT Video: https://lnkd.in/gnYc8fz2 ●Sources: Lloyd's Maritime Institute, https://lnkd.in/gdExUsgV, https://lnkd.in/gqMSjqmd

Step on the ferry in IJmuiden to Global Offshore Wind #RUKGOW24 and what's the first thing I see? A big red boat. For anybody not familiar (and I'm only vaguely familiar compared to my colleagues) this is the Fugro Synergy. She's a 104m long geotechnical research vessel. Her job is to determine site characteristics such as soil strength for the purpose of designing offshore wind foundations. Next time somebody refers to a geotech vessel, this is what they mean.

Pushing for a more circular industry, Dieseko vibro technology was again utilized by its partner to finish yet another decommissioning project, taking old steel pipes out of the ocean and making our world a little better.
𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞! #DiesekoGroup finished another offshore decom project successfully three days earlier than planned. The basis for this success, was the excellent preparations and co-operation with our respected client DeepOcean. This time our 1412C vibro hammer operated up to -122m subsea and needed an average of 10 minutes net vibration time to get 100% of each pile out, without cutting or dredging the pile, as part of the dismantling of the Chesnut Field P1 production well in UK waters. In this way we leave nothing behind in the seabed and contribute to a circular economy. More jobs planned, stay tuned… #foundingthefuture #vibrotechnology #decommissioning #offshore #decomproject #vibrohammer #deepocean

I love telling stories visually as well as in words. I'm fascinated by the ingenuity of inventors, engineers and designers who solve problems and overcome the most difficult challenges. I photographed two vessels in Ostend harbour deployed to work on the Seastar and Mermaid wind farms located in Belgian waters approximately 40-50 km off the coast of Ostend, in 22 to 38-metre deep water. The two windfarm projects will have a combined capacity of 487 MW. The wind turbines are 109 metres in height and have a rotor diameter of 167 metres. The plan is to install 58 turbines to power around 500,000 households. Once completed, the project should offset 700,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The Vole au Vent on the left is an offshore jack-up installation vessel built in 2013 in Gdansk, Poland. She sails sailing under the flag of Luxembourg. The impressive crane of offshore jack-up installation vessel enables the safe installation of the heavy foundations and components of offshore wind farms. The ship is equipped with legs to lift itself above sea level to provide a stable platform that is unaffected by the waves. The Apollo first arrived in June 2020 at the REBO terminal in Ostend. It is a jack-up vessel designed to incorporate tools for the installation of turbines on windfarms in high winds of up to 15m/sec. Most vessels of this type only allow installation up to winds reaching 10-12m/sec. This capability gives the Apollo a significant advantage on the North Sea. The leg length of the Apollo is extendable to 106.8m. #VisualStorytelling #Inventors #Engineers #Designers #ProblemSolving #OstendHarbour #WindFarms #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #CO2Reduction #SustainableEnergy #RenewableProjects #ClimateAction #GreenEnergy

Our PMR Paul Turnbull's work is ongoing near New Jersey for one of our valued long-term clients. This beautiful photo of a humpback whale breaching, taken by the onboard Protected Species Officer (PSO), underscores the unique environment we operate in and our commitment to preserving it. In other offshore news, here are some recent highlights from the industry: 🌊 TDI-Brooks has updated its 50-year-old survey vessel, the Gyre, to improve seabed mapping capabilities before deploying it to West Africa. The Gyre, which was built in 1973, received substantial improvements at Las Palmas, including the installation of a new KONGSBERG EM-304 MKII multibeam echosounder, which allows for high-resolution seabed mapping from 10 to over 11,000 metres. After three years in the Americas, the sailboat has returned to Dakar, Senegal. TDI-Brooks also recently overhauled the RV Nautilus, formerly known as the Nautical Geo, for offshore wind work off the East Coast of the United States. ⚡ On June 1, CEMRE SHIPYARD in Türkiye launched the world's first e-methanol-fuelled service operation vessel (SOV). Developed by ESVAGT A/S and Ørsted, the NB1094 SOV incorporates hybrid, methanol-fuelled dual engines and batteries, decreasing CO2 emissions by about 4,500 tonnes per year. The 93-meter vessel, which can accommodate 124 passengers, will be built under DNV classification and sail under the Danish flag. Ørsted will deliver e-methanol derived from wind energy and biogenic carbon. When it is operational in 2024, it will serve the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm in the North Sea. A second methanol-powered SOV is planned for 2026, operating from Ørsted's UK East Coast Hub in a 10-year contract. 🌀 Despite other power facilities shutting down, Prime Energy (Prime Energy Resources Development B.V.)'s Malampaya gas field maintained full natural gas supply to Philippine power plants during Typhoon Aghon. The field's infrastructure, intended to endure extreme weather, provided steady electricity to Luzon, which relies on Malampaya for 20% of its power. Prime Energy plans to invest $800 million to extend the field's life by drilling new wells in 2025. Meanwhile, First Gen Corporation is looking for longer-term contracts for its gas-fired power plants to ensure the electricity grid's future, having received its fourth LNG shipment in a year. ✉️ Connect with us on LinkedIn or email operations@GGSltd.uk to explore how our expertise can support your offshore energy projects.
