👋 S.Lab attended 🌍 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP29 Azerbaijan. Supported by Greencubator and Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund our CEO and Co-founder, Julia Bialetska, participated in a panel discussing how 🇺🇦 Ukrainian climate innovations are making a global impact. Together with other promising climate tech companies she discussed 💪 challenges faced by green innovators in market adoption, 💰 role of the climate-focused investors in the future of climate technologies and 🤝 how startups can collaborate with corporate players. 📣 We need a more open dialogue. The real changemakers: startups, climate investors, innovators should be invited to share their experience and be given an opportunity to lobby their interests. 🇪🇺 The EU has strong green policies, but it lacks enough opportunities for startups and innovators to develop. And soon we can find ourselves in the situation, when companies desperately need new solutions to comply with new regulations, but there’s not enough of those on the EU market. ❗ Europe must double its climate investments to meet 2030 targets. So let’s make some real change — because the future depends on what we invest in today.

🌦️ Is Climate Tech in Developing Countries Poised to Suffer Due to a Lack of Funding? 💰 The COP29 Global Climate Finance talks concluded with a deal to fund $300 billion per year to support poor nations in mitigating carbon emissions and combating climate damage. However, several countries, including India, opposed the deal, stating that it’s too little and too late. According to them, the previous goal of $100 billion in funding by the year 2020 has not yet been fulfilled. The actual need is five times the proposed amount. With hundreds of startups in climate tech blossoming in these developing countries that are victims of climate change, a funding crunch could severely hamper efforts to achieve global climate goals. On the other hand, we see more and more denials of climate change occurring. They claim it’s only one of the Earth's natural processes. Either way, tough times are ahead. #ClimateTech #ClimateChange #ClimateEmergency Image Credit: European Environment Agency (Creative Commons)

Powerful insights from Nick Falkowski on the urgent need for tangible climate action! 🌍 As tech professionals, we have a unique opportunity to drive real impact through sustainable technology and ESG practices. Let's collaborate to transform our industry into a force for restoring our planet. How is your organization embracing #SustainableTech? #GreenIT #ESG #TechForGood
CEO & Co-Founder @ Meaningful Planet | Passionate about utilising technology to help people and our planet.
🌍 The latest UN climate report is stark: Global efforts to tackle climate change are "wildly off track," with emissions rising faster than at any time in human history. Even more concerning? 🌳 Forests are losing their ability to absorb carbon effectively - just when we need them most. This is why we started Meaningful Planet, because we collectively need to find more ways to take tangible action, not more half-hearted words and empty commitments. 💭 What do you think? • How can businesses move beyond targets to create real impact? • How can we make it easier for everyone to contribute meaningfully? • How might we transform existing models of economic output and productivity into powerful means for restoring our planet? 🌱 We are lucky to already be working with many great commercial and environmental impact partners to make an impact - but there's always more than can be done. I'd love to hear thoughts and connect with other experts and businesses we might be able to combine forces with to drive more impact? (I'll be at Web Summit in November in Lisbon if anyone would like to discuss in person over a coffee) #ClimateAction #Sustainability #BusinessForGood #MeaningfulPlanet #websummit #impactstartups (I've linked the UN report in the comments.)

As Dr. Kirsten Dunlop, CEO of Climate-KIC, says "innovation isn’t only about technology; it’s about transforming ourselves: our mindsets, our assumptions, our habits, our businesses and the places that matter to us." In 2025, building a resilient Community of Impact Professionals driving innovation all around the world will be as relevant as ever. 👉 A united Community can be the solution to the political fragmentation of our current landscape and a reaction to the lackluster results achieved at #COP29 and #COP16. 📅 Join this critical debate on Thursday 12 December at our latest Community CONNECT. Participate in a panel with Kirsten Dunlop and other Climate Innovation Experts and discuss priorities, challenges, and opportunities as we look ahead to 2025 with other Innovators and Impact Professionals. 🌿 Join the Community today to get access to this and many other networking opportunities. 🔗 Sign up now: https://lnkd.in/e3B9gHFa #ClimateCommunity #ClimateAction #ClimateInnovation

At the Slush Climate Summit last week, Mimi Billing of Sifted interviewed Upright’s founder Annu Nieminen about a critical question in sustainability: How do we measure the impact of economic activity on the world? Annu's message was clear: ESG metrics and other traditional sustainability frameworks are losing relevance because they are not answering the question that people care about the most: How does this product, company, or fund impact the world? The problem is not a lack of knowledge – humanity has accumulated a lot of scientific research on the impacts of economic activities. What’s missing is the link between what humanity knows (scientific research) and what humanity does (economic action in the capitalist system). These two haven’t been meeting – thus far. At Upright, we’re building that bridge. You can explore science-based impact quantifications on companies and funds yourself on the Upright Platform (link in comments). The ultimate question we’re working to answer is: What kinds of things can humanity afford to produce in the future? A big thank you to Lightrock, Transition, and Extantia for organising the event, and to everyone who listened, shared ideas, and challenged us in intellectual conversations. Until next year!

UNGA | NY Climate Week 🗽 ✍ A positive start last week with the UN promising to adopt the “Pact of the Future”. 56 pledges across 5 themes, in which world leaders promise to provide more finance for low-income countries, work harder towards peace & security, mobilise science and listen to the youth. Though not all good news, hard realism was brought into conferences this year, as those left vulnerable discussed the brutal effects they're facing due to the climate crisis. With over a 60% increase in wildfires from last year to present in the Amazonia region, restricted R&D projects for ocean solutions due to dated legislation and 2.33 billion people (nearly 29% of the global population) being food insecure (a number which was at 795 million people in 2015, not even 10 years ago). The urgency, evident. Frustrations raised as the need for multilateralism meets constant blocks by geopolitical tensions. The back-&-forth debates preventing policy agreements and implementation. However, with that said, the overarching theme of the week was collaboration. A new term gaining popularity and heard throughout was Bio-Regionalism; seeing beyond borders recognising our shared commons and one planet The openness to interconnectivity between the private sector, governments and academia was seen in gatherings and think tanks for solutions across the week. Hope and action, prevalent. 🕊

I’d like to sincerely thank Dr. Muhammad Younis for being interviewed before the London Climate Technology Show 2024. It was an invaluable chance to discuss the evolving landscape of climate tech and the importance of sustainability at such a pivotal global event. I'm enthusiastic about the opportunities, collaborations, and innovations that could arise—not just for the most engaged participants but also for the broader communities, helping to pave the way for a sustainable future. 🌍 #ClimateTech #Sustainability #LondonClimateTechShow2024 Strategies for fostering increased engagement within communities of the global south, building mutually reinforced platforms for the exchange of dialogue, and implementing a fair, unsupervised, multidisciplinary network are, therefore, crucial. The Global Sustainable Futures Network provides an integrated approach targeted to the scientific and non-scientific to foster increased engagement directed to ‘common but differentiated responsibilities’ to solve the climate crisis, including finance and technology needed for low carbon growth, and coordinate inter-sectoral coherence towards macroeconomic, financial, trade and industrial policies, required for regional growth and development and building regional resilience to climate change.
