Can We Feed the World? 🌽🌍The Hidden Faces of Hunger 02 Food security is the state at which food have to be available, accessible, effectively utilized and have stability. These were highlighted in my previous post. Today, we're going to delve deeper into the factors that contribute to food insecurity. Food insecurity is a state of being without reliable access to sufficient quantities of affordable, nutritious food.🤌🏼 It involves uncertainty about where the next meal will come from or the inability to obtain nutritious food in a socially acceptable way. This is a pressing concern that affects millions of people worldwide. 🌽 Poverty: Poverty is a significant driver of food insecurity, limited financial resources restrict access to nutritious food, forcing individuals and households to rely on cheaper, less healthy options. As the wealthy tend to have better access to food, the poor struggle to make ends meet. 🌽 Conflict and Political Instability: Conflict and political instability can severely disrupt food systems, leading to food shortages, price increases, and reduced access to food. Refugees and internally displaced persons are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity due to their limited access to resources and infrastructure. 🌽 Climate Change: Extreme weather events, such as droughts, floods, and heatwaves, can devastate crops and livestock, impacting food production and availability. 🌽 Soil Degradation and Fertility: Soil degradation and fertility decline can reduce crop yields and impact food security. Soil erosion, nutrient depletion, and salinization can all contribute to reduced soil fertility. 🌽Economic Shocks: Economic downturns, job losses, and rising food prices can erode food security, especially for vulnerable populations. Food security is a complex issue, influenced by a multitude of factors. Understanding these factors is essential for developing effective strategies to address food insecurity. By addressing poverty, conflict, climate change, and other factors affecting food security, we can work towards a future where everyone has access to nutritious food. When people face food insecurity, - it can affect their health, - well-being, and ability to work or learn. It’s important to raise awareness and find solutions so everyone has access to the food they need. Ifeoma Chukwuanu
Very insightful piece Ifeoma Chukwuanu . I personally feel one of the causes of food insecurity in our country Nigeria is the fact that many persons have turned away from the farm. We are now focused on white collar jobs, tech jobs and we totally ignore utilizing the available space in our backyards to plant a thing or two.
Well said Ifeoma Chukwuanu

1moFood insecurity is a very notable challenge in this country, which was as a result of many factors, and the most significant one is poverty and a bastardized economy. And Food is not evenly and wholesomely distributed, but this can be somewhat mitigated from what Emmanuel said earlier focusing on farming from a little space we have. That's a helpful piece of information, thanks for sharing 👍.
