🎓Dissertation Milestone Achieved🎓 I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully completed and cleared my dissertation on "The Impact of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) on Length of Hospital Stays in India: A Scoping Review."🏥🦠 This is a highly interesting topic with immense potential for further exploration through a systematic review, but it also highlights a key challenge: the lack of accurate and comprehensive data in this area. This dissertation perfectly aligns with my Master’s in Global Health Management, as it ties together various aspects of my modules, from health systems to epidemiology and policy-making. In addition, the focus is on the managerial & leadership side of AMR rather than the clinical perspective.🌍📊 As someone new to the education system here, writing my first dissertation was no easy task. There were moments of doubt and confusion, but with the invaluable support from my supervisors, module leaders, and the dedicated library & academic writing staff, I learned the essential steps of conducting a scoping review and gained the confidence to push through. 🙌📚 This journey taught me not only about the impact of AMR but also resilience and adaptability. I am proud of myself that I wrote this all by myself. I now look forward to contributing further to global health research and am excited about the possibilities ahead! 💡✨ #GlobalHealth #AntimicrobialResistance #HealthResearch #AcademicJourney #PublicHealth #Dissertation

I have been lecturing a course on #Social #Epidemiology in the Erasmus MC summer programme of the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES) Erasmus Summer Programme for many years. We described patterns of #health #inequalities and discussed the explanations of these inequalities, important topics! The week however, always ended with the message that our knowledge about how to tackle inequalities was scarce. It felt a bit frustrating to equip new generations of students with the tools and methods to do research on themes about which we know much already, and less with the methods to obtain knowledge about what we don’t know. And that while such methods improved over time, and can be of great help for many public health challenges, such as curbing the increase in #overweight and #obesity and the rising costs in care. With great help from Fleur ter Ellen, we developed a new course on ‘the evaluation of public health interventions’ (https://lnkd.in/eQ7rFM4p), with a focus on universal and selective #prevention, which was given last week. We introduced our students with the need to truly understand the complex #systems in which #public #health interventions are implemented, the construction of causal loop diagrams, the ways of identifying leverage points in these systems. Moreover, we introduced quantitative and qualitative methods to answer questions about the impact of interventions and policies and the processes related to that in those systems. Students were challenged to identify what we don’t know, and to avoid thinking that we always need a randomized control trial for answers. We used, for example, the situation where a young couple rents a house very close to a highway. Building rental apartments so close to the highway almost guarantees heath inequalities in the next decades; offering a physical activity program for example won’t solve that problem. Truly understanding the housing system is needed to come up with better solutions and requires different insights from pulic health experts. Giving this course could not be done without the contribution of experts. I was extremely happy to have professor Frank de Vocht from University of Bristol, who presented numerous great examples of evaluations of public health interventions. We had an inspiring Q&A session with dr. James Nobles from Leeds Beckett University on Ripple Effects Mapping, and Fleur ter Ellen developed a causal loop diagrams with the students. For me, it gave more energy than wrapping up on Friday with the conclusion that we don’t know much about how to solve our challenges. I hope that at least some young researchers got inspired to contribute to this. It is not easy, given the inherent combination of mixed methods that is required, but we were lucky to have a great group of students. Given the improvements, we will surely have to update the course again next year. I am looking forward doing so.

In last few days, a lot of aspirants have reached out to me for the questions asked in TISS MPH interviews. For that I would like to share my interview questions with all the aspirants who have cleared the cut-offs of written exam already. TISS MPH-SE interview Mode- Online Date : 17/04/2023 Duration: 38 mins Number of panelists: 3 Extempore: Safety of Healthcare workers (Time given: 1 min for thinking and 3 mins for speaking) PI Questions asked: 1. Tell me about yourself 2. Prosthetics and Orthotics is such a noble profession and our country needs more professionals. Why Public Health then? 3. How did you get to know about this course? 4. Have you gone through the course curriculum? Anything you've found interesting? Why? 5. Why TISS? How will you be an asset for TISS? 6. What is Epidemiology? 7. What do you understand by Social Epidemiology? 8. Why SE is your first choice? 9. What is the difference between endemic, epidemic and pandemic? 10. How Religion affects health? 10. MPH-SE 2. MHA 3. MPH-HA Based on my 3 interviews and preference orders I got selected for MPH-SE. Some suggestions for aspirants: 1. Read the basics of Indian healthcare system and be ready with an overall concept. Health Statistics of India and your own state is a must. 2. Be confident about your past experiences and learnings. 3. There is nothing called perfect answer. Be very polite and don't argue with the panelists. 4. Don't get tensed even if your extempore round went extremely wrong. Just give your best in the PI. 5. Don't try to fake and be yourself. 6. Exceptions to above are obviously possible as interviews are always unpredictable. Tata Institute of Social Sciences TISS MPH -Social Epidemiology

I am so excited to share that I have finished a certification course on understanding research methods from University of London. The key modules of this course were Research methods, Literature Reviews, Planning and time management in research writing. According to @sandraHalpern She said that a good research question should be very significant, strong to answer a question and also be researchable. In understanding a gap, you also need to show where the gap is and then develop a plan to fill the gap. Charlotte Horyck in demonstrating how literature review is so relevant to research projects said that Literature Reviews allows the researcher to familiarize him/herself with the current field. It also allows the researcher to figure out where the current trends are and not only the current trends but the past trends tooo. Finally and time management is very essential in Research projects because you really need time for your writing to evolve and bring your creativity into life. The interesting part of this course was the peer review session and discussion forum. we had time to review the work of our colleagues and also got each other's feedback from the project given. I will recommend the course for Early career researchers . #Publichealthresearcher #earlycareerresearcher #Epidemiologist #Processoverresult #scientificresearchwriting #lookingforinternshipopportunity #Talentlabltd International Society of Global Health FHI 360 Society for Family Health Nigeria International Research Center of Excellence_IHVN

The world has made immense strides in improving health outcomes and increasing life expectancy over the past century in large part due to improved medicine, infrastructure, and technology transfer between nations. However, these gains have been uneven. Many populations continue to face challenges across key metrics such as maternal and child mortality, burden of infectious and chronic disease, and life expectancy. This course will offer students an overview of the most important health challenges facing the world today. Students will be introduced to key topics important to global health including the historical roots of global health initiatives; national and international health systems; measures of disease burden; determinants of health outcomes; key global health initiatives and funding mechanisms. My love for epidemiology and health education is deeply rooted in the profound impact these fields have on improving public health and empowering communities. 1. Making a Difference: Both epidemiology and health education are central to public health. Epidemiology helps identify disease patterns, causes, and risk factors, providing the foundation for effective health interventions. Health education translates this knowledge into actionable information, empowering individuals and communities to make informed health decisions. The synergy between these fields ensures that my work can make a tangible difference in people's lives. 2. Intellectual Challenge: The analytical nature of epidemiology appeals to my love for solving complex problems. It requires a deep understanding of statistical methods, critical thinking, and an ability to interpret data to uncover the underlying causes of health issues. This intellectual rigor keeps me engaged and continuously learning. Health education complements this by requiring creativity and communication skills to convey complex information in an accessible and impactful way. 3. Interdisciplinary Approach: Both fields are inherently interdisciplinary. Epidemiology intersects with medicine, biology, environmental science, and statistics, while health education draws on psychology, sociology, communication, and pedagogy. This multidisciplinary nature allows me to work with a diverse range of professionals and topics, enriching my understanding and broadening my impact. 4. Practical Applications: The practical implications of epidemiology and health education are immensely fulfilling. Epidemiological research informs policies and public health strategies, while health education initiatives translate these strategies into practice, promoting healthy behaviors and preventing diseases. Seeing the direct results of my work in improved health outcomes and empowered communities is incredibly motivating. 5. Global and Local Impact: Epidemiology and health education offer opportunities to address health issues both globally and locally. Understanding and mitigating health disparities, responding to outbreaks, and promoting health equity are crucial tasks that have a far-reaching impact. This dual focus allows me to contribute to global health improvements while also addressing specific local needs. 6. Lifelong Learning and Growth: The ever-evolving nature of health threats and advancements in research and education ensures that there is always more to learn. This continuous learning environment keeps me intellectually stimulated and professionally fulfilled. My love for epidemiology and health education stems from their ability to improve public health, the intellectual and practical challenges they present, their interdisciplinary nature, their local and global impact, and the continuous opportunities for learning and growth. #epidmiology #publichealth #education
