🔥 “Supply chains are under threat from climate change, philanthropy offers a way for businesses to bolster support for those farmers and suppliers dealing with climate threats.” It was great to be at Blue Earth Summit in London last week, and meet change-makers and businesses that are taking action for climate and nature. 📣 A highlight was the panel event that Impatience Earth Deputy CEO @Aditi Shah joined, alongside speakers Estelle Gayout, James Reed CBE and Catherine Bryan. We talked about how corporates can use philanthropy as a “golden ticket” to take bold climate action, build resilient supply chains, and unlock funding from other budgets to catalyse innovation. 🌱There are many examples of meaningful corporate climate philanthropy to learn from. During the panel, Estelle talked about the Farmer Innovation Fund, and we’re proud to be supporting innocent drinks to de-risk the transition to regenerative agriculture. It was also good to connect with Tony's Chocolonely and learn about their open chain approach to change cocoa production in West Africa, and House of Hackney's decision to appoint Mother Nature & Future Generations to their board of directors. 💙Thanks again to the Blue Earth team for inviting us to be part of this event! Day 1 of the World Economic Forum was absolutely unbelievable—it was amazing to see such a clear, strong focus on #sustainability. Hearing from industry leaders in fireside chats, panel discussions, and roundtables sparked new ideas for Lemonade's #sustainability strategy as we navigate a rapidly changing world. As I heard several times throughout the day, the two words on everyone’s lips are #sustainability and #AI. The key question now is how to harness the power of both to create a better future. At Lemonade, I believe we’re uniquely positioned to be thought leaders in this space, as we continue to push boundaries and innovate at the intersection of #AI and #sustainability. Some key insights I gained include: 🤝 Cross-sector collaboration requires building trust between #nonprofits and for-profits, creating a foundation for lasting impact. 🌍 Sustainability reflects a shared vulnerability—it’s an issue that unites us all, demanding collective action. 🤖 AI’s potential for #sustainability lies in its ability to create a more livable planet while driving measurable progress. 📊 Transparency and accountability matter more than ever. At Lemonade, we’ve established a #climate committee—comprising leaders from legal, finance, and communications, including Tim Bixby, Elske H., Anthony Irwin, Louise M, Natalie Wilson (Gerke) —to ensure that every environmental claim is backed by robust #governance. At Lemonade, #sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s central to how we operate. Since 2017, through our #Giveback program, we’ve donated over $10 million to causes that align with our mission, including climate action. Some of our recent environmental initiatives include: 🌲 Planting 400,000 trees to restore American landscapes after wildfires. 💧 Providing clean water access to 40,000 people through charity: water. 🌊 Supporting 30,000 ocean conservationists to protect marine ecosystems with The Ocean Agency. 🌍 Training 500 climate activists from the Global South to scale clean energy initiatives with 350.org. 🌿 Safeguarding rainforests to avert CO2 emissions with the Coalition for Rainforest Nations. Our approach extends beyond donations. For example, #LemonadeCar actively promotes eco-conscious behaviors: 🚗 Encouraging sustainable driving practices with usage-based insurance models. 🌳 Planting trees for every mile driven by our customers. ⚡ Offering discounts for electric and hybrid vehicles, making sustainable transportation more accessible. Can't wait for Day 2 of #WEF2025! 💪

How has climate philanthropy evolved in 2024? What are its sectoral, geographic and emerging trends? Which opportunities for learning and collaboration can be identified? These are pertinent questions, as climate change is already disrupting communities and livelihoods worldwide. To get insights in these and other relevant questions, I recommend a new report by ClimateWorks Foundation, a long-term strategic partner of Good Energies Foundation, for philanthropies to make informed decisions on climate strategies. As highlighted, the call for #climate #philanthropy extends beyond more funding dollars - it includes implementing strategic recommendations to drive meaningful impact. The report concludes with the following recommendations: 1. Unlock the catalytic and collaborative potential of philanthropy. By taking a collaborative approach, philanthropy can catalyze the game-changing investments from public, private, and multilateral finance to unlock the trillions of dollars needed for climate solutions. 2. Invest deeply in capacity development and core support. Philanthropy can provide more multi-year flexible and core funding, especially in low-to-middle-income countries, to help grantee organizations scale and build capacity in a sustainable way. 3. Embrace holistic, integrated climate solutions. Philanthropy can increase investment in climate solutions at the intersection of societal issues such as human rights, public health, and economic development. Our gratitude to the lead authors, Narine Esmaeili, Karolina Janik, Tim Lau, Surabi Menon, Hannah Roeyer, and Megan Turnlund; to Helen M., and other strategic partners, such as Jennifer Kitt, Charles McElwee, Shawn Reifsteck, for their invaluable contributions. Let us all step up, as we cannot shift the burden of climate mitigation to future generations. 🙏🏾🌍🌳 See full report below, or download in the following link: https://lnkd.in/d-FBkWig

Schreiber Ventures is on a mission with our Sustainability team to address food waste, vital to securing a more efficient and responsible future for the food industry. We're excited to announce our recent investment in Brightly, focusing on food waste and food insecurity through carbon credits...A massive opportunity to provide more food to those in need! https://lnkd.in/ep_RvUr3
There are a lot of amazing companies and people doing phenomenal work, continuing to raise the bar for all of us. I’m proud of the work our small team at Brightly is doing to address climate change and food insecurity. Every day we are working to make a difference for people far less fortunate than all of us. We have incredible food rescue partners who are redirecting food to those experiencing hunger, counting on us to create sustainable funding for their critical work. To that end, I’m thrilled to have some great partners around the table with us, including Blair Tritt and Bill Dong from Schreiber Foods; Louis Warner from Founders Factory; Steve Molino from Clear Current Capital; Andrew Montgomery from Collaborative Fund; and WindSail Capital Group LLC. They see what we see, and are helping to fund a future where food waste is eliminated; food insecurity is eradicated, and where businesses lead the charge in climate action. We are all in this together. Let’s go make a difference! https://lnkd.in/ep_RvUr3

🌍 Climate Philanthropy: Key Trends in 2024 🌍 The latest report from ClimateWorks reveals critical insights into global philanthropic funding for climate change mitigation from 2019–2023. The report underscores the urgency of scaling climate funding and adopting a more strategic and equitable approach to maximize global impact. Here are some key takeaways: 🔑 Funding Growth: • In 2023, philanthropic climate funding grew by 20% compared to 2022 • Despite this growth, climate funding remains less than 2% of total global philanthropic funding. 📌 Spotlight on Challenges and Opportunities: • Industrial Decarbonization: Although industries like steel and cement are major emitters, only 2–3% of climate philanthropy funding goes to industrial emissions reductions. More targeted investments could unlock significant potential. • Geographic Disparities: Africa, Latin America, and other regions that contribute the least to emissions yet face the greatest climate risks, receive only 20% of foundation funding, while 60% is directed to the Europe and the US. 🌿 Why It Matters: • Decarbonizing industries is essential to achieving global climate goals, as they account for over one-third of global emissions. • Increased funding in regions like Africa and Latin America can drive equitable solutions, strengthen resilience, and address climate justice. ✍ The report recommendations for philanthropy are: 1. Prioritize catalytic funding to mobilize larger public and private investments. 2. Invest in multi-year core support, especially in underserved regions. 3. Embrace holistic approaches that integrate societal challenges like health, equity, and economic development. Read more 👇

"By acting boldly and collaboratively, philanthropy can bridge divides and help build a sustainable and equitable future for all" - Helen M., President and CEO, ClimateWorks Foundation The climate crisis demands urgent action—and philanthropy is stepping up. The ClimateWorks Foundation 2024 Funding Trends report reveals that philanthropic giving for climate mitigation grew by 20% in 2023, yet it still accounts for less than 2% of total global philanthropy. Here’s what you need to know: 1. Foundation funding for climate tripled from $1.7B in 2019 to $4.8B in 2023. Key sectors: Clean electricity, forests, and food/agriculture remain top-funded. Emerging strategies like sustainable finance and methane reduction are accelerating. 2. Gaps Persist: Low-to-middle-income countries received only 14% in core funding, compared to ~33% for U.S. and Europe. 60% of regional funding is concentrated in the U.S. and Europe, leaving Africa, Asia, and Latin America underfunded. 3. Opportunities for Impact: 1️⃣ Collaborate Boldly: Join forces with other funders to multiply impact—case studies like the Global Methane Hub show how. 2️⃣ Invest in Capacity: Focus on core, multi-year funding to empower grantees, especially in vulnerable regions. 3️⃣ Think Holistic: Support solutions that integrate climate with health, equity, and economic resilience. Philanthropy can catalyse transformative change, but we must scale ambition and act with urgency. Full report available here: https://lnkd.in/g4TPaZAd #ClimateAction #Philanthropy #Sustainability
