New Study: How Video Game Addiction Impacts Kids' Learning and Cognitive Skills 🧠 A recent study explores how video game addiction affects children's attention and memory, ultimately impacting their cognitive and learning abilities. 🤯 🔍 Key Findings: Video game addiction has a significant indirect effect on cognitive and learning skills through attention. Memory doesn’t mediate the relationship, but both attention and memory are key to learning. The study suggests focusing on attention therapies to reduce the negative effects of gaming on children’s abilities. 📚 This highlights the need for balancing screen time and supporting kids' attention to help them thrive academically. Study focuses on action video games ability to address adolescent anxiety. Here is an opportunity to participate in a study that will measure commercial video games viability as a treatment for anxiety in 12 - 14 year old children. This is a great way to learn more about video games as therapeutics and perhaps open a meaningful dialogue with a kiddo who may be struggling with mental health issues. The enrollment period ends June 30th and the link below will provide much more detail and access to enrollment. Additonal Details: The study aims to recruit 150 individuals, 12 to 14 years of age, with high levels of anxiety as reported by the parents’ online form of the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders questionnaire. This trial contrasts a child-friendly, “action-like” video game designed to improve attentional control abilities in a progressive and stepwise manner (Eco-Rescue) with a casual puzzle video game selected to act as a positive distraction tool (Bejeweled). #anxiety #science #research #adolescence #videogames Study Link: https://lnkd.in/gv2sAQqK Enrollment Link: https://lnkd.in/dmPErWXE

As children continue to mature, they understand the world around them in slightly different ways. Some of them prefer a verbal approach, others depend more on visual processing or can be intrigued by books and listening to dialogues 💬 Despite their unique cognitive processing style, all children are expected to reach multiple developmental milestones across the first 2-years of life: crawling, grabbing something, walking with single words, etc 👣 When a child doesn’t reach these milestones, they are at higher risk for developing visual-spatial deficits, sometimes referred to as a nonverbal learning disorder 🌀 In this video, our psychomotor therapist, Mabelle El Koreh, explains how visual-spatial disorder looks in children’s daily lives and learning, impacting tasks like writing, reading and math 📑 -- There are many ways to support and even treat children with visual-spatial disorder to achieve their potential. Reach out at 800-VALENS or via our website for consultation. #VisualSpatialDisorder #NonVerbalLearningDisorder #ChildrenMentalHealth

IMPACT OF ADDICTION As we navigate through our academic and professional journeys, it's crucial to recognize and address the significant impact of addiction on student life. Whether it's substance abuse, gaming addiction, or other forms, these challenges can profoundly affect students' well-being and academic performance. Addiction not only disrupts academic focus but also strains personal relationships and mental health. It can lead to missed classes, poor grades, and a decline in overall productivity. More importantly, it hinders the development of crucial life skills and coping mechanisms necessary for success in both academic and professional environments. To support students facing these challenges, it's essential for educational institutions🏢 and communities to foster open dialogue, provide accessible resources for treatment and support, and promote a culture of understanding and empathy. By addressing addiction proactively, we can create a more supportive environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Let's continue to raise awareness, offer support, and empower students to overcome these obstacles and achieve their full potential. Together, we can make a positive impact on student 🧑💻 well-being and academic success. #StudentLife #AddictionAwareness #SupportStudents #MentalHealthMatters #Education

Be under no illusion, behind the scenes, there are an army of behavioural & consumer psychologists out to get your children. 🚨 They - the attention vultures - are creating addiction by design, in order to exploit developmentally vulnerable children, and lull them into exchanging their childhood for consumerhood, en masse, in order to maximise profit margins. 🤑 Take Rene Rechtman who is the founder and CEO of Moonbug Entertainment that owns CoComelon Playdate for example, leading companies that actively use the very same highly unethical tactics as the gambling industry for adults, gleefully thrusting them upon unsuspecting babies & children. 🤦 Is there really any wonder that increasing numbers of children are growing up with ADHD symptoms, unable to concentrate properly in schools for eg, when their most formative neurodevelopmental years, are saturated with poisonous trance enducing content? Content that traps them into a funnell of hyper engagement, draining their natural interest in the real world. 😵💫 As usual, children - the future of society for all, and the real victims in all this - are being harmed right before our very eyes, by those making gigantic profits. 🫡 LinkedIn LinkedIn News LinkedIn News Europe LinkedIn News Australia LinkedIn News India LinkedIn News UK LinkedIn News Asia LinkedIn News Middle East Neuroscience News #Tech #DigitalPoison #Play #Development #Relationships #Parents #Children #Education #School #Teachers #Future #Success #Tips #Linkedin #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #Safeguarding #ChildProtection

NEW: School Shooters: Recognizing Extreme Overvalued Beliefs by @TahirRahmanMD via Psychology Today A concerning shift can occur in the human mind after spending significant time in the sewers of the internet. Beliefs that start from a grievance can head down a dangerous path to become “extreme overvalued beliefs”—firmly held convictions that are shared and amplified within online communities and can have devastating consequences. This is also known as a contagion effect or "copycat" phenomenon. (As I will explain, threat assessment professionals utilize behavioral patterns to thwart attacks.) At the heart of these observed patterns are pathological fixations that are shaped through interactions with others https://ow.ly/wEAK50Tg2eg #MentalHealthAwareness #OnlineSafety #BehavioralHealth #ThreatAssessment #PathologicalFixations #ContagionEffect #ExtremeOvervaluedBeliefs #InternetCulture #PsychologyToday #TahirRahmanMD
