The H&M Foundation launched the Global Change Award – called The Nobel Prize of Fashion – as the first innovation challenge of its kind in 2015. Since then, 46 innovations have received support and a combined grant of 8 million euros from the Global Change Award. And the grant is just one perk of winning the Global Change Award. 💰 From an economial point of view, the textile industry is one of the #most #important sectors in the world with a value of USD 1.3 trillion per year . In Europe, according to estimates by the European Commission, the sector generates a turnover of EUR 160 billion per year and #employs more than 1.5 million people with approximately 160,000 companies in the sector. 🛑 The textile sector is also among the most polluting sectors in the world, ranking 4th, after food, housing and mobility. However, a fundamental regulatory framework at the EU level is in the making, as the #EuropeanCommission has presented nearly 20 legislative proposals since our inception. 🇪🇺 We remain committed to supporting the development and implementation of legislation that steers critical changes in how sustainable and circular practices are integrated, developed, and scaled within the textile industry.
