I am very pleased to share with you the results of our last publication entitled “Additional revenues estimation in a market-based redispatch: An opportunity for flexibility” in the framework of the research projects PRE2021-097723, project PID2020- 116433RB-I00, under grant MICIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and FSE+, and TED2021-131724B-I00. Although in reality a method is developed that investigates for any market the possibility for the industry to monetize its flexibility potential, analyzing the case study of the steel industry in Spain. The main highlights obtained are: - A method to identify locational price signals in a zonal pricing market is developed. - The proper use of public information could guide investment in adequate locations. - Additional revenues will encourage the implementation of flexible resources. - Nodes with structural technical constraints in Spanish power system are identified. - Certain nodes of Spanish power system show higher economic revenues. This article is the first academic contribution of Andres Dorado Galatoire 's PhD Thesis, which I have the honor to direct together with Jose Luis Martinez Ramos, from the ETSi - Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Sevilla who at the same time are the Principal Rerearches of the National Research Plan project “MODELS, TOOLS AND SCENARIOS TOWARDS A CARBON-FREE ELECTRIC SYSTEM” Thanks to the public funding of this research project we have been able to publish it in open access so that it is accessible to the entire scientific community, as well as to interested people from the administration and industry. In the attached link you can access the paper, which has been published in the prestigious journal Energy Conversion and Management: X Elsevier, which is indexed in the first decile of the SCI of Clarivate, occupying the position 5/170. https://lnkd.in/dfHwcqK8

🌍 Geothermal energy provides a clean and renewable power source but is associated with induced seismicity risks in certain regions, requiring careful monitoring and mitigation measures. 📊 In our newly-published study, we conduct a statistical analysis of recorded seismic data from the geothermal power plants (GPP) in Insheim and the Munich region. By integrating scarce Munich data with physics-based simulations, we generate ground motion models expressed as response spectra, providing insights into ground motion characteristics. 📐 We propose new region-specific regression coefficients for spectral accelerations and velocities, distinguishing between horizontal and vertical directions. 🏠 Additionally, we evaluate a low-rise residential building’s response in the Munich region using multi-modal response spectrum analysis, assessing serviceability against current German standards. Our findings indicate compliance for events up to a moment magnitude of 2.5. 🔍 These insights contribute to understanding GPP-induced ground motions, aiding serviceability verifications and informed decision-making in geothermal projects. Modelling the energy transition: FME InterPlay was one of the 8 new research centres that was given the FME plaque in the research councils award ceremony in Oslo this week. The centre aims to model the energy transition and the interplay between energy vectors, the interplay between the energy system and nature and the interplay between the onshore and offshore energy system. We are looking forward to the cooperation. Photo: Forskningsrådet/Thomas Keilman.
