AN OPPORTUNITY MISUNDERSTOOD. The modern economic system is a market economy, which is a capitalist economy where people, not the government--NOT THE GOVERNMENT--own most businesses. From Irma to Surfside, Miamians take care of each other. During climate-fueled flooding like we saw last month, we can take care of our own from extreme weather trainings to reporting hazardous conditions. Because last week's downpour wasn't a fluke, but an increasing pattern as a result of the #climatecrisis. And it’s not just stronger rains and more frequent storms. Scientists predict that 60% of Miami-Dade County will be underwater by 2060 due to the rising sea level caused by big corporations refusing to slow down fossil fuel burning. And our current infrastructure is nowhere near the state it needs to be to prepare. How will we advocate for better infrastructure against climate change? Who is taking care of our unhoused neighbors during these crises? What policies are helping or hurting us from this year's legislative session?
