The Life Science Barometer 2024 is now live! As an annual initiative by SwedenBIO, the Life Science Barometer aims to gauge the pulse of the life science sector. This year's survey boasts record participation from 200 companies nationwide, making it the most comprehensive report to date. The Life Science Barometer 2024, produced by SwedenBIO in collaboration with Medicon Village, Sahlgrenska Science Park, Stockholm Science City, STUNS Life science and Citeline, promises unique perspectives absent in previous statistics. Some key highlights from the report: - Medtech constitutes the largest segment, encompassing 61 % of the life science sector. - Research and development is the primary activity among small and medium-sized enterprises. - The majority of companies are privately owned. - Financing stands out as the most significant concern for companies. Glad to see months of hard work and collaboration coming into reality in the form of this year's Life Science Barometer! 📈 It also meant having the opportunity to look into regional naunces to the national results, especially since Skåne is the second-largest life science region in Sweden, representing 21% of life science companies in Sweden. What we found was: 🔎 Among the 820+ companies in Skåne, 560+ belonged to the core life science segments of pharma, biotech, medtech and diagnostics. 🔎 Medtech is also the largest segment in Skåne, representing 43% of companies. 🔎 Skåne has a higher proportion of micro-sized companies, 83%, compared to the Swedish average of 77%. 🔎 In the short term, finding and securing funding was a key priority for Skåne-based respondents (a pattern among micro-sized life science companies in Sweden), while... 🔎 In the long term, leadership recruitment and development is a prioritised area for increased investment after market growth and workforce recruitment. For those curious to find out more, I would encourage you to download the Life Science Barometer from SwedenBIO's website; do watch out as well for a regional report focused on Skåne that Medicon Village will publish later this spring, supported by Sparbanken Skåne.

Join us at noon on Mon. April 22, for the annual update on Arizona's bioscience sector: https://lnkd.in/g-XwZ45h. Every two years, the Flinn Foundation commissions a study of performance metrics for the biosciences in Arizona and shares the results with the community. The figures that will be released Monday are drawn from the last biennial dataset before Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap is renewed in late 2025. Measuring and publicizing progress is a necessary condition for a collective- impact initiative like the Roadmap to succeed. The adaptive challenge of driving Arizona’s bioscience sector forward requires concrete data to inform the decision-making of hundreds of institutions and leaders that have committed to our shared agenda. The metrics derive their power in part from their consistency—dating to the Roadmap’s creation in 2002—and in part because we measure Arizona not only against its past self, but also against national benchmarks of competitiveness. See you there.

🌟 Exciting Poster in Antimicrobial Coatings! Our team at the EU Nova Project is pioneering advanced biological models to anticipate potential side effects in next-gen antimicrobial coatings. 🚀 Here’s what we’re doing: 🔬 Developing in vitro assays to assess biocompatibility and immunocompatibility for materials like hernia meshes. 🧬 Using state-of-the-art visualization techniques like FIB/SEM to study biological responses. Why is this important? By anticipating and mitigating possible side effects early in the design process, we’re ensuring safer, more effective antimicrobial solutions. Thanks to Philipp Meier, Giacomo Reina and Peter Wick from Empa, Veno Kononenko and Damjana Drobne from University of Ljubljana and Susanne Kurz and Juliane Spohn from Fraunhofer IKTS. You can find the poster here: https://lnkd.in/egSVRCWD Let’s create a safer, healthier future together! #Innovation #Healthcare #Research #AntimicrobialCoatings #Nanotechnology #EUProjects P.S. If you're interested in how we're shaping the future of antimicrobial materials, stay tuned for more updates!
