#teacherapprecationweek is coming up soon! Want to know what to "give" your child's teacher? Here are some tips from Dr. Fay of Love and Logic fame: "Another gift we can give them involves our own parenting. The most wonderful display of our appreciation is to send them students truly ready to be respectful, responsible, and eager to learn. No doubt this gift also benefits our children, who will rise to the top when equipped with such character attributes. In addition to letting our kids hearing our positive comments about their teachers, here is list of a few additional things you can do to help teachers help your kids succeed: - Ensure that they are doing chores without reminders at home, so that they know how to do assignments without reminders at school. - Allow very little time with technology, including video games, texting, surfing the web, watching videos, television, etc. These activities make it more difficult for our children to remain calm and content at school. - Have family meals together, where you enjoy each other and talk about all the things you’ve learned during the day."

Fun Group Activities for Children! Yesterday I spoke on the importance of children engaging in social activities with their peers. Today we'll be discussing on some group activities children can engage in when they are together. Helping children develop social skills and teamwork is essential for their growth. Group games and activities are superb ways to achieve this! Here are some fun ideas: 1. Treasure Hunt: Organize a treasure hunt where children work in teams to find hidden items. This activity encourages problem-solving, cooperation, and communication. 2. Relay Races: Simple relay races can be loads of fun. Children learn to support each other and work together towards a common goal. 3. Building Projects: Give kids building blocks or simple materials and ask them to create something together. It fosters creativity, teamwork, and collaborative problem-solving. 4. Drama and Role-Playing Games: We did this a lot growing up. Acting out stories or playing roles in a drama helps children express themselves and understand different perspectives, enhancing empathy and cooperation. 5. Group Puzzles: Working on a large puzzle together teaches kids patience, sharing, and the joy of achieving a goal as a team. Encouraging children to engage in these group activities helps them build important social skills. To help them learn other important life skills, register them in the virtual life skills bootcamp coming up in August. Check comments section for more details about the bootcamp. 🚶 Walk to School Week 2024🚶 20th-24th May is Walk to School Week and we wanted to share our ideas for how to make movement fun and discover the magic of walking and wheeling! A recent study found that children who exercised before school had improved concentration levels in school. So, how can we make walking or wheeling to school fun? Playing games – try the alphabet game! Pick a category and go through the alphabet taking it in turns to name something beginning with each letter. For example, you could pick food and your first three words could be apple, biscuit, and crisps. Try this little game to make walking to school a bit more fun! Team up with friends – walking or wheeling to school can provide the perfect opportunity for children to connect with their friends. Try scooting or cycling – travelling actively to school doesn’t just have to involve walking. Children may find it more enjoyable to scoot or cycle! Add a challenge – creating challenges can make actively travelling to school more exciting. You could create a list of things for your children to find on their journey. This will depend on the route you take but could include: a blue car, a zebra crossing, a flower, a lamp post. Get creative and challenge your children to spot different objects every day! Regular physical activity promotes the development of strong bones and muscles and positively impacts our mental wellbeing. How are you going to make Walk to School Week 2024 fun? Teachers and educational professionals – feel free to share this information in your school newsletter to parents or share with the pupils in your class! Happy walking and wheeling! #walktoschoolweek #walking #wheeling #themagicofwalking

Parenting tip 💡 Is your child struggling to stay engaged in school? If your child feels like learning is a chore, try igniting their interest using a personal passion. Be it art, photography, comics, STEAM, skating, dance, basketball, or history— every child has something that sparks excitement. When we tap into those interests, we can uncover our children’s inherent curiosity and motivation. Foster a sense of wonder by selecting books from the local library that feature characters students identify with and hobbies they enjoy. Invite children to create something in their own style—whether it's writing the first draft of a paper as an anime script or composing a poem in the style of their favorite famous lyricist. When we feed enthusiasm and engagement in one area of a child’s life, it reminds them that their interests, voices, and stories matter and it empowers them to apply that energy to other areas of their academics. ✨📚 Literacy is so much more than reading and writing. Encouraging children to explore their personal interests fosters their confidence and nurtures their sense of identity, empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential! 💜 #DeweyCommunity #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ParentingTips
