Always be firm-fair-and consistent with your leadership. Hold everyone to a high standard and help them get there. Don’t believe in excuses without a solution. Keep helping others to be better than what they were yesterday and continue to let them know there are a myriad of ways to get there. Being direct is just one of many and needed at times. People don’t always like being pushed into being better but in the end, you will always see positive results and see the appreciation.

As our company is planning for next year, we are focusing on leadership. What it means to you and your beliefs. We were asked to either reference a famous quote on leadership or create one. At this late stage of my career, I wanted to reflect on what I wanted from a leader and what it means to me to lead. I hope I have dreamed big, dared to do and inspired others along the way. "True leadership is the art of inspiring action. It's about kindling the fire within oneself and then using that spark to ignite the passions of others. Let's dare to dream, dare to do, and dare to inspire." Share with me what you believe leadership is and what has inspired you.

Leadership isn't just about guiding others; it's about inspiring them. But how do we truly inspire? It starts with vulnerability. Sharing our failures as openly as our successes creates a relatable narrative that encourages others to persevere and grow. In the heart of leadership, personal stories of resilience transform abstract concepts into tangible examples of courage and determination. This fosters an environment where trust is built, and true inspiration can flourish. Let's lead by example, showing that strength often comes from the most human moments of vulnerability. Together, we can redefine what it means to inspire.

Lead with empathy, learn from everyone and get them on the bus. People don't resist change, they resist being changed. The majority of people couldn't care less about the changes you are implementing, they only care about what matters to them. You have to get into everybodies minds individually. What's the size and scale of the resistance? 20% onboard, 60% aren't bothered, 20% resist, focus on the top 20% and the rest will follow. It's finding the top 20......... Essentially, everyone is different it's tough to get them all onboard. Leadership recognition is paramount, without the celebration people will believe they are doing badly.

Effective leadership begins with knowing who you are. Self-awareness isn’t a one-time exercise; it’s a continual process of refining your strengths and addressing your blind spots. As you build this foundation, you model the resilience your team needs to see. Lead with clarity and purpose, and inspire others to do the same. Your influence will expand as you become a leader who truly understands both self and others.

Good leaders have the remarkable ability to transform the potential within their people into reality. They inspire and motivate, not by demanding excellence, but by nurturing it. True leadership is about empowering others to discover their strengths, fostering an environment where growth is not just encouraged but inevitable. By believing in the capabilities of their team, good leaders create a ripple effect of confidence and competence. They understand that their legacy is not measured by their own achievements, but by the success and development of those they lead. In making others better, they make the world better, leaving a lasting impact that transcends their own time and influence.

Remember, you hired them for their skills, so let them shine. You trust them because you have fostered a culture of valuing ideas and collaboration; let them make mistakes. Your job as a leader is to facilitate opportunities and encourage your team to rise to them—let them take the credit for the wins and the work. By freely giving these things to your team, YOU will become legendary through their greatness. They will become legendary through your leadership. It's a cycle.

It is the courage to lead with empathy, the strength to inspire through integrity, and the wisdom to uplift others over oneself. True leadership doesn’t command respect, it earns it by nurturing trust, cultivating growth, and showing that power is not about dominance but service. It’s in the kindness that empowers and the vision that includes, proving that leading with compassion is not a weakness- it’s the ultimate strength. Have a great week!
