🚗💡 Ever come across a transportation planning term and wondered what it means? We've got you covered! Next up: Traffic Calming! Traffic calming involves design strategies that aim to slow vehicle speeds and encourage safer driving. Some examples of traffic calming methods include speed bumps, bike lanes, raised intersections, roundabouts, and chicanes. By reducing traffic speeds and collisions, traffic calming measures can improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vulnerable road users. VTC recently published a study on the traffic-calming effects of delineated bike lanes. Tap the link below to check it out! https://lnkd.in/eZHr-dEm #trafficCalming #transportation #TransportationPlanning

At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian. October is Road Safety Month and we wanted to take a moment to refresh our followers on key pedestrian safety tips 👇 Crossing the street (At pedestrian crossings)🚶♀️ - Cross only at marked pedestrian crosswalks or crossovers. - Cross only when the driver has fully stopped. - Hold your hand out in front of you indicating you are waiting to cross the road. - Make sure drivers see you before you cross. At a traffic light 🚦 - Cross when traffic has come to a complete stop. - Begin to cross at the start of the green light or “walk” signal, where it is present. - Don’t begin crossing if you see a flashing “do not walk” symbol or the light turns yellow. - Watch for traffic turning at intersections or turning into and leaving driveways. Railway crossings 🚋 - As you come to a railway crossing, listen and look both ways before crossing the tracks. - Never walk on the gravel roads or green space alongside railway crossings. - Keep your distance as trains are wider than the tracks. ♿Wheelchairs and scooters are designed for people who have limited mobility because of a medical condition or injury. They are considered as pedestrians under the Highway Traffic Act. Most municipalities have bylaws about where wheelchairs can and can't be used. #RoadSafetyMonth #PedestrianSafety #SafeCrossing #TrafficSafety #StreetSmart #WalkSafe #RoadAwareness #PedestrianTips

🚶♀️🚶♂️HAPPY TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY🚸 Today's Topic: National Pedestrian Safety Month October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! If you are participating in the #weekwithoutdriving challenge, you may be experiencing the roads in a new way this week.🦽🚲 Pedestrian safety isn’t just a matter of caution—it’s a matter of life and death. Every day, people of all ages walk to school, work, or just to enjoy the outdoors. However, with increasing traffic, distracted driving, and poorly designed streets, these everyday activities can become dangerous. Pedestrian safety matters because every person deserves to reach their destination safely. Pedestrian Safety Tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): For Drivers: 🚗Look out for pedestrians everywhere and at all times 🚗Use extreme caution when driving in conditions that are hard to see 🚗Slow down and be prepared to stop when nearing a crosswalk 🚗Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and stop far away to allow other vehicles to see crossing pedestrians and never pass vehicles that are stopped at a crosswalk 🚗Follow the speed limit, especially around people on the street, in school zones, and in neighborhoods Pedestrians: 🚸Follow the rules of the road and obey signals and signs 🚸Walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as much as possible 🚸Cross streets at sidewalks or intersections, and make sure to look for cars in all directions 🚸Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or parking lots Resource: https://lnkd.in/eHWHVkR

Pedestrian Bridges make cities less walkable. The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy knows what they are talking about "Pedestrian bridges do not encourage walkable, livable communities, nor do they improve road safety for drivers or cyclists. Separating people from the street reinforces the prioritization of motor vehicles, while encouraging speeding, driver negligence, and traffic fatalities." #walkability #pedestriancentric #humancities #peoplefirst #sustainablecities #pedestrians

#WaybackWednesday Did you know that the very first automated parking garage was built in 1905 in Paris, France? It was called the Garage Rue de Ponthieu. It wasn't fully automated (attendants parked cars), but it started the trend of using machines for parking! #BusinessSecurity #SecurewithSecurex #PhysicalSecurity #SecurityAwareness #ParkingManagementSystem
