As we begin National Child Protection Week, we join our colleagues at NAPCAN and across the sector to reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding children and sharing our knowledge so that every child is kept and feels safe at all times. At Junior Adventures Group child safety is paramount. As highlighted by NAPCAN’s theme for this year, we know that every conversation matters. So, this week and throughout the month, our teams will be coming together and having the conversations that matter to champion the safety of children. As part of our focus on child safety this month we will be building on our sector-leading policies by launching a group-wide training program that incorporates safeguarding best practices so that our people are empowered to always stand up for children’s rights. #NationalChildProtectionWeek #NCPW2024 #EveryConversationMatters

I recently completed the UNICEF #ChildProtection Certificate on Kaya, which I see as an essential step in my role as a Program Officer. This training gives me the knowledge to integrate child protection considerations into every activity we lead, making sure our work respects and prioritizes the safety of children, especially those in vulnerable situations. For #humanitarianworkers, child protection is more than just a priority; it’s a duty. This #knowledge equips us to build safer, more inclusive environments across all our projects—from emergency response to #community #development. I encourage everyone in this field to seek out similar training. Protecting children’s rights and well-being isn’t just part of our work—it’s at the heart of it.

As we observed the International Child Safeguarding Week (21st - 25th October, 2024) , Let us be reminded of the fundamental principle of "Primum Non Nocere"—First, do no harm. In our role as safeguarding practitioners, this principle is not just a guideline but it is our unwavering commitment to protect the most vulnerable among us—The children. Every child deserves a safe environment to thrive, learn, and grow free from harm. let us then reflect on the essential measures we can take to create and uphold such spaces. Whether through robust policies, community engagement, or empowering young voices, our collective efforts can make a significant impact. A risk identified is a shared risk to all within the organization and can have an impact in the overall state of the organization. Finally, Let us create a culture of safety and respect that empowers children, establish what safety means to children, institutionalize sound child participation practice, empower children as part of the solution, they know what works, what doesn't and what needs to be done. Let’s champion their rights and ensure that our actions reflect our commitment to do no harm. 💙 #ChildSafeguarding #PrimumNonNocere #ProtectingChildren #InternationalChildSafeguardingWeek

This year’s National Child Protection Week (1 – 7 September) theme - ‘Every conversation matters’ - provides an opportunity to reflect on the vital role we all play in creating a safe environment for children. In Health, we are working hard to help our workers build their knowledge about the practical and everyday ways we can all make sure children and young people are safe in our services. This includes acting on the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry and championing initiatives such as: • continuing to roll out mandatory online training on child safeguarding for all workers • providing online and face to face information and education session on safeguarding topics, such as mandatory reporting requirements • learning from the ideas and advice of young Tasmanians, as shared at AGFEST, in workshops and our Children and Young People Advisory Group • strengthening our reporting mechanisms, policies and protocols to ensure young Tasmanians are safe and feel safe in our services. 📷 Health’s Child Safety and Wellbeing Service team members sharing child safeguarding messages at the Royal Hobart Hospital with staff and community members. Engagement stalls occurs at least monthly at each major hospital, as one of the CSW Service’s education activities. This week is International Child Safeguarding Week (ICSW), a global campaign initiated by Keeping Children Safe to emphasise that safeguarding children from exploitation and abuse is everyone’s responsibility. Throughout this week, we highlight the importance of creating safe environments for children, raising awareness about the risks they face, and empowering them to speak out. Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding children, from families and educators to governments and child protection services. By working together, we can ensure that every child grows up in a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Why is Child Protection Essential? 1. Safety and Security; A safe environment allows children to explore, learn, and grow without fear. It’s essential to establish spaces where they can thrive emotionally and physically. 2. Holistic Development :Child protection is not just about preventing harm; it nurtures a child’s overall well-being. When children feel safe, they are more likely to engage fully in their education and develop healthy social skills. 3. Building Resilience: Teaching children about their rights and how to protect themselves fosters resilience. They learn to identify unsafe situations and the importance of seeking help. 4. Community Awareness: Fostering a culture of child protection raises awareness among parents, educators, and community members, ensuring that everyone plays a role in safeguarding our children. 5. Long-Term Impact: Investing in child protection during the primary stage leads to positive outcomes in later life, including better educational achievements and healthier relationships. What Can We Do? - Provide resources and training for educators and parents on recognizing and responding to signs of abuse or neglect.(Educate) - Support policies that prioritize child protection in schools and communities.(Advocate) - Create open lines of communication where children feel comfortable discussing their feelings and concerns.(Engage) Together, let’s create a nurturing environment where every child can flourish and feel safe. #ChildProtection #Education #PrimaryEducation

Be Intentional About Child Protection and Safety This Holiday Season As we approach the holiday season, many families are preparing for vacations, camp meetings, and coaching sessions. It's a time of excitement and joy for children, but it also calls for heightened vigilance regarding their safety and protection. Child protection is everyone's responsibility. As professionals, parents, and guardians, we must ensure that robust policies and practices are in place wherever our children go. Ensure all organizations, camps, and summer programs have comprehensive child protection policies. Talk to your children about their activities, who they will be with, and what they should do if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Be aware of the signs of child abuse, educate yourself and others on how to recognize and respond to potential issues. Teach children about their rights, personal boundaries, and the importance of speaking up if something doesn't feel right. It's crucial to note that most of the intervention cases we've handled were perpetrated during holidays while children were left unsupervised, in one-on-one care, and on vacation. This underscores the importance of being particularly vigilant during these times. By being intentional and proactive, we can create safe environments where our children can thrive and enjoy their holidays without fear. #childprotection #childsafety #holidayseason #childadvocacy #preventhhildabusen #parentingtips #professionalresponsibility Ibiyemi's ink 🔏 worthywrites

It’s Day 7 of National Child Protection Week 2024 and we’re wrapping up this week’s educational series highlighting Child Safe Standard/National Principle 9 (Standard 10 if you are in Victoria): “Implementation of the national child safe principles is regularly reviewed and improved.” Q. How can your child safe organisation seek continuous improvement? A. By being a learning organisation! Being a learning organisation requires you to: - understand the current culture, policy and practice - engage with stakeholders - identify strengths and improvements - plan improvements - have a specific and measurable improvement plan - monitor, review and report progress. Today may be the last official day of National Child Protection Week however conversations as to how to keep our children and young people safe in all scenarios must continue to occur in line with this year's theme that Every Conversation Matters. We can help support your organisation to address the most complex safeguarding problems head-on, fostering real and meaningful safety for children and young people. https://lnkd.in/gHyeaVm5 #safeguarding #childsafety #childprotection #childsafe #childsafestandards #training #education #nationalprinciples #childsafechampions #childsafeofficers #recruitment #professionaldevelopment #ncpw #ncpw24 #governing #leading #organisationalculture #settingculture

The U.S. Department of Justice recently announced its findings that Arizona’s Department of Child Safety (DCS) violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by discriminating against parents, including foster parents and other caregivers, and children with disabilities. Parents with disabilities have the right to equal opportunities in raising their children, free from prejudice or inequitable treatment. The ADA ensures these rights by requiring public entities to provide fair treatment and appropriate accommodations.
