On World Suicide Prevention Day, let's break the silence surrounding mental health struggles, especially in our children. Did you know that one in four teens have contemplated suicide? Early intervention is crucial in fostering healthy coping mechanisms and resilience in children. Last year, partners of JWB's Children Mental Health Initiative screened 5,480 children for adverse experiences and scheduled 397 for behavioral health services. In Pennsylvania, over 40% of students report feeling depressed or anxious "most of the time," according to the PA Youth Survey (PAYS). Even more concerning, 60% of children who die by suicide never received mental health support (CDC). Our current mental health system often waits until children are in crisis before offering care. On this National Depression Screening Day, let’s commit to reimagining how we support youth mental health—ensuring every child has access to care before it's too late. Join Children First in advocating for a proactive system that supports children and families. As Suicide Prevention Week concludes, this poem reflects the personal journey many of us experience in seeking inner peace and understanding. It symbolizes navigating through mental challenges to find a place of calm within ourselves. In line with the Hold On initiative, it’s crucial to remember that this journey does not have to be faced alone. Although the poem illustrates a solitary path, mental health support and suicide prevention should be ongoing, shared efforts. The conversations and support should continue throughout the year, not just during this week. Let’s commit to fostering a supportive community where mental health discussions remain open and accessible. Together, we can ensure that no one has to navigate their challenges in isolation. Let’s carry forward the spirit of this week and support each other every day. #aholdoninitiative #suicidepreventionweek #mentalhealthawareness #yearroundsupport #innerpeace #communitycare #mentalhealthmatters

Today is World Suicide Prevention day, a time to reflect, support, and spread awareness about a reality that affects far too many of us. As someone who lost a good friend to suicide, the weight of this topic is personal. The pain, the unanswered questions, and the longing to have been able to do more are emotions I carry with me every day. As a parent and someone who supports students in their journeys, I know the importance of fostering open conversations, checking in on those around us, and ensuring that no one feels like they have to navigate life's challenges alone. It’s crucial to remind ourselves that mental health is as important as physical health, and we must prioritize it, not just for ourselves, but for the people we care about. To anyone struggling in silence: You matter. Your feelings are valid. And help is always available—please don't hesitate to reach out. Let’s use this month to listen more, share more, and, most importantly, be there for one another. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #YouAreNotAlone #BreakTheSilence
