In Pennsylvania, over 40% of students report feeling depressed or anxious "most of the time," according to the PA Youth Survey (PAYS). Even more concerning, 60% of children who die by suicide never received mental health support (CDC). Our current mental health system often waits until children are in crisis before offering care. On this National Depression Screening Day, let’s commit to reimagining how we support youth mental health—ensuring every child has access to care before it's too late. Join Children First in advocating for a proactive system that supports children and families. Day in Day out🥺suicide headline😩 I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young life in Thamaga. Suicide among adolescents is a concerning issue that requires our urgent attention. It's distressing to see that we are seemingly recording suicide cases on a daily basis. We must create safe spaces for young people to express their emotions and seek support without fear of judgment. Let’s parent better, let’s befriend our kids, and allow them to openly talk to their parents. Let’s fix our dysfunctional families. Let's break the silence surrounding mental health and prioritize early intervention and support services for those in need. Let's work towards building a society where every individual feels valued and supported. #YourPsychBae #CharlotteRuwona #MentalHealthMatters #RIP #BreakTheSilence #MentalHealthMatters

Lack of social support is a significant social determinant of youth #mentalhealth, especially when it comes to anxiety and depression. Social isolation can heighten feelings of loneliness and stress, leading to worsening mental health. Without a supportive network, young people are more vulnerable to isolation and worsening symptoms. By building a supportive network through community programs, school activities, and peer support, we can help youth feel connected and understood. It is no surprise that there are a lack of mental health providers. However, there have been recent changes in legislation to allow for inter-state access to licensed providers Also, there is a growing list of online providers and resources. Unfortunately, this may not be enough to address our youth mental health crisis. Opportunities can exist through the following: - Accessible and affordable care through insurance partnerships requiring more providers that accept private insurance as well as state Medicaid. - Pediatric providers can meet youth where they are instead of on a couch or over zoom. Some providers have found great success safely conducting sessions while playing a game of catch, taking a walk, or while grooming a therapy pet. Let's be innovative! #mentalhealth #youthmentalhealthcrisis

🌍🧠 Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we shine a light on the mental health challenges faced by youth across the globe. Half of all mental health disorders begin by age 14, yet many go undetected and untreated. Depression and anxiety are now among the leading causes of illness and disability in adolescents, and suicide ranks alarmingly high as a leading cause of death among 15–19-year-olds. Violence, poverty, stigma, and exclusion all play a role in increasing the risk of mental health struggles in youth. Prevention starts with understanding. Let's commit to having critical conversations about mental health, supporting the well-being of young people, and taking action in our communities to address the mental health crisis. Together, we can help break the silence and create a world where every young person feels seen, supported, and safe. 💚 #MentalHealthMatters #YouthMentalHealth #EndTheStigma #BreakTheSilence
