🔴 [ Special week: access to energy in Africa ] While the electricity sector is attracting more and more funding, #clean cooking remains the poor relation of the energy transition in #Africa. The sector does not seem to be attracting any major financial backers. This is why players in the sector are now turning to innovative financing. How Namibia is helping its most sustainable companies compete globally By Nangula Nelulu Uaandja The world is well aware of the climate finance gap — the gap between the $100 billion currently annually committed by donor countries and the $2.4 trillion needed per year to fund the climate transition. Identifying solutions to mobilize capital is now vital and each part of society — particularly the private sector — has a role to play. In Namibia, we know that many businesses are now under increasing pressure to green their supply chains and reduce emissions across their product lines. That’s why the government has established the Namibia Sustainable Supplier Database in partnership with the World Economic Forum. #namibia #suppliers #database Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) https://lnkd.in/du6hRuci

I had the opportunity to join the Cambodia-Europe Public-Private Sector Dialogue on 17 September, the delegation led by H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the EU to Cambodia, and H.E. Jacques Pellet, Ambassador of France, EuroCham Chairman Tassilo Brinzer along with private sector representatives, engaged in fruitful discussions with H.E. Chanthol Sun, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC), and ministry representatives. The dialogue focused on boosting European Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and developing stronger frameworks in key areas such as renewable energy and solar panels, waste management, and transport & logistics. We addressed important concerns, including the need for streamlined regulations in solar panel energy and waste management and how cross-border bureaucracy is impacting SMEs' ability to scale and succeed in logistics. I was encouraged by the CDC's openness and commitment to creating a more business-friendly environment, and I’m optimistic about the potential for deeper collaboration between Cambodia and Europe. There’s plenty of room for growth, and I look forward to contributing to the ongoing dialogue and future initiatives. #PublicPrivatePartnership #Cambodia #EU #SustainableDevelopment #Energy #Transport #Investment

The Voluntary Carbon Market has presented us with the perfect opportunity to capture and avoid CO2 emissions while distributing wealth to less developed countries. It is time that major banks and corporations made their minds up on offsets rather than kicking the can down the road. Tech leaders like Microsoft have an offsetting strategy it is time "legacy" firms followed suit.
We are proud to be working in Togo, one of the signatories in the following article, where we are producing and on route to distribute 200,000 efficient cookstoves to benefit income and health of the Togolese population while bringing vital investment to the country. We are hoping that these developments will convince opponents of the offsetting industry that we are working towards the same goal and to contribute constructively rather than denying the benefits of the Voluntary Carbon Market. It is imperative that firms reduce their footprints and offset their emissions in PARALLEL.
