The monthly analyses from Agri Stats Brasill demonstrate that the standard cost for broiler chicken production in Brazil has experienced a slight increase. 📈 For the month of May, the cost of chicken stands at R$3.80/kg (US$ 0.76/kg) live weight, marking an increase of R$0.01/kg (US$ 0.002/kg) live weight compared to April. This stands in contrast to May 2023, where the standard cost for live chicken was R$4.27/kg (US$ 0.85). This increase is mainly attributed to feed costs. 🌽

📊 Insights from Adolfo Fontes, market analyst at DSM, shed light on future trends in meat consumption. Over the next decade, global meat consumption will rise by 1.3%. Fontes highlighted the significant growth in poultry meat consumption, alongside increased demand for pork and beef. Moreover, Fontes emphasized an optimistic outlook for pig farmers worldwide, anticipating a better balance between production costs and income from pig sales. This positive trend is attributed to declining prices of key inputs like wheat and corn. However, challenges persist for pig farmers in China, who are expected to face pressure from lower pork market prices. Price control measures are not the solution to curb food inflation. Instead, we should focus on fostering a free market. As one of my esteemed teachers used to say, "The market will find its way. "Excessive intervention by the government or regulatory authorities often disrupts the intricate balance of the agriculture sector. For instance, controlling chicken prices by capping feed costs impacts maize prices, a critical component of poultry feed. This can lead to farmers ceasing maize production, thereby reducing overall supply. This ripple effect is observed across various agricultural products. The optimal solution is to allow markets to operate freely, as practiced globally. Government action should aim at supporting producers through subsidies rather than imposing price controls, which risk driving them out of business. #Poultryprice #chicken #price #pak #isb #chicken #bussiness

The government has fixed a conservative target of wheat procurement in the range of 30-32 million tonnes for the 2024-25 rabi marketing season, according to the food ministry. The lower target has been fixed despite the Ministry of Agriculture hoping for a record wheat production of 114-115 million tonnes in the 2023-24 crop year (July-June). The target was fixed after a deliberation with state food secretaries in a meeting chaired by Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra in the national capital on Wednesday. #foodsecurity #foodbusiness #governmentofindia
