Session 6 - Sport Industry Series - Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 at NYU Stern School of Business SPONSORSHIP AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES Excited to share highlights from the Sport Industry Series, featuring Jonathan Emery CEO of ALDAR DEVELOPMENT, alongside Chris McHardy Jonathan provided valuable insights into how high-profile sponsorships are enhancing Aldar's brand visibility and support its global sports ambitions. Key takeaways included: - Building Active Communities: The importance of creating developments that promote health, wellbeing, and active lifestyles for residents. - Leadership & Sport: Jonathan's personal reflections on how cycling and events like the #Paris2024 Olympics influence leadership and community engagement. For a property developer focused on driving healthy living, several key reasons underscore its importance: - Market Demand: Increasing awareness of health and wellness trends drives consumer preference for developments that promote active lifestyles, making such properties more attractive to buyers and tenants. - Enhanced Quality of Life: Creating spaces that encourage physical activity and well-being fosters a sense of community, leading to happier, healthier residents. - Long-Term Value: Properties designed with health-focused amenities can increase in value over time, as demand for such features rises. - Sustainability and Resilience: Healthy living initiatives often align with sustainable practices, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers and enhancing the developer's reputation. - Community Engagement: Promoting healthy living can strengthen community ties, leading to increased resident satisfaction and loyalty. By integrating these principles, property developers can create thriving, vibrant communities that attract and retain residents while contributing positively to public health. 💥I loved the analogy of the “flow state” and being part of the peloton of life - having owned and funded the #1 road cycling team in Africa this really resonated with me. A fantastic discussion on the intersection of sports and community development! #abudhabisport #property Sally Corander Christopher Corander Michele P.

Interesting post Paris 2024 Olympics sports tourism perspective using South Africa as the focus, but whose approach can be modeled by other countries pursuing growth in this sector. Sport tourism in South Africa is already a US$3.6 billion industry and forecast to grow. The country has a track record of hosting big sport events – like the annual Cape Town Rugby 7s tournament, the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the Comrades Marathon. It’s an appealing year-round golf destination with a developed sport and active leisure industry. There’s every reason to view this as a high-growth potential, niche economic sector for the country. #southafrica #sportstourism #destinationmarketing #sustainability #costreduction Dirk Glaesser Sandra Carvao Patricia Carmona Redondo Lorena Villar Ana Martín Gutiérrez Grant MacDonald Rick Traer Sòókò Deji Ajomale-McWord Abiola Ijasanmi Rachel A. Winter Sports World is bold and out-of-the-box. It’s unique. It’s an Australian first. But it’s not a world-first. That reduces the risk for us because we can draw on the knowledge and experience of the world’s best indoor snow centre experts. In fact, people have been bringing snow indoors since the 1920s. The first one opened in Vienna in 1927 along with another in Berlin. Both used a patented artificial snow-like surface. No more opened until Seibu Sayama in Japan in 1959, which brought real snow indoors. Snowdome Adelaide in Australia (then Mt Thebarton Snow and Ice) was the fourth indoor snow centre in the world when it opened in 1987. It is now The IceArenA. Dozens opened throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, mainly throughout Asia, some in the Netherlands and Europe and a few in other areas such as the Big Banana in New South Wales Australia, New Zealand’s Antarctic Experience Centre and the UK. In 2002, Frozen World opened in Dubai, along with Snow Capsule and Snow X Treme there and in Qatar. Snowmania continued with the likes of Snow House in India and Xanadu in Spain (2003); Vahterusring in Finland, Ski Dubai in the UAE, Amneville in France (2005); Deepo Mall in Turkey (2010); SNORAS Snow Arena in Lithuania (2011); Little Ding Dong in Taiwan (2013); Ski Egypt (2017); Snow Wonderland in South Africa and American Dream (2019); Winterland in Pakistan (2020); Ice Caribbean Entertainment District (ICED) in Trinidad & Tobago and Sno Abu Dhabi (2023). China has an astounding 50 indoor snow centres, all built between 2003 and 2023. Centres operate in 15 of China’s 23 provinces, 2 of its 4 municipalities and 2 of its 5 autonomous regions. Many provinces have more than one centre: Zhejiang Province has eight centres, Hunan has six and Jiangsu four. The appetite for indoor snow centres shows no sign of abating. China, Dubai, the UK and Saudi Arabia all have centres under construction or planned. Australia’s first indoor snow resort – the $500M+ Winter Sports World – will be a transformative tourism project for Western Sydney and NSW when it opens in 2028. #wintersportsworld #wsw #newattraction #westernsydney

I'm incredibly proud to share the launch of Dubai’s only full-size indoor football pitch at ISD Dubai Sports City Dome, home of LALIGA Academy Dubai Academy. This project not only sets a new benchmark for sports infrastructure but also aligns with a greater focus on athlete well-being—something particularly relevant as we mark #WorldMentalHealthDay. Physical activity plays a huge role in mental health, and having a safe, high-performance space to play is key. The GreenFields MX Elite system, a FIFA-certified surface made from 100% recyclable materials, ensures optimal playing conditions while also being environmentally responsible. We’ve also chosen natural cork infill over traditional crumb rubber to create a safer, healthier surface—especially important for younger athletes. As we move forward, our goal is to transition all pitches at ISD Dubai Sports City to hybrid, sustainable fields, promoting both physical and mental well-being through world-class facilities. Here's to creating environments where athletes can thrive, both physically and mentally. #WorldMentalHealthDay #SustainableSports #AthleteWellbeing #FootballForAll #MentalHealthMatters #SportsInfrastructure #SustainableInnovation #ISDDubaiSportsCity
