Pleased to have presented a paper entitled "Disrupting Inequity Through Digital Storytelling: Possibilities and Challenges" at the Computers and Writing Conference 2024. This project explores the complex terrain of using digital storytelling to disrupt systemic inequity and pursue narrative justice for marginalized communities. It asks: How can minoritized populations leverage digital counter-storytelling for social change when sociotechnical systems remain structured against them? What risks and unintended harms emerge from platform-based activism and whose responsibility is it to address those ethical complexities? Can dominant corporate platforms, with capitalist imperatives, ever be sites for liberation, or should social justice efforts develop alternative digital ecosystems centered on minoritized users’ needs? It was my humble attempt to address all those issues and I'm eager to continue this conversation. #CWcon24 Here's a link to the Conference-

Can we get beyond the limits of standardized testing? Can we have authentic assessments that are flexible, valid, and reliable? What are the equity implications of performance-based assessments? These are just a few of the questions that will be discussed on Wednesday, March 13th, during, "Authentic Assessment of Civic Readiness: The Challenges of Implementation." A recent report published by the DemocracyReady NY Coalition shows that over 80% of states currently ignore the need to assess the full extent to which students are being prepared for capable civic participation. The DemocracyReady NY Coalition, in collaboration with iCivics, will host a webinar on the national state of civic #assessment featuring David Kidd, chief assessment scientist at the Harvard University Democratic Knowledge Project; Margarita Olivera-Aguilar, senior researcher at the American Institutes for Research; and Phyllis Tashlik, director of the Center for Inquiry at the New York State Performance Standards Consortium. The speakers will discuss each of their center's cutting edge initiatives to address the challenges of implementing authentic assessment. #CivicLearningWeek #NYCivicLearning2024 Register today! ➡ https://lnkd.in/drB8vmQC
