In 2017, I lost my beloved nephew, Jacob Warford, to suicide. His passing has left an indelible mark on my life, and it has fueled my commitment to suicide prevention. I have come to understand that one of the most critical actions we can take to save a life is to ask direct and compassionate questions. Asking someone if they are thinking about suicide can be daunting, but it’s a conversation that can change the course of someone’s life. If you know someone who might be struggling, reach out and ask. You might be the lifeline they need. Listen without judgment, offer your support, and guide them toward professional help. **Resources for Support:** - National Suicide Prevention Lifeline:** Dial 988 (U.S.) - Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 (U.S.) - Veterans Crisis Line:** Dial 988, then press 1 - Trevor Project (for LGBTQ+ Youth):** Call 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678 - SAMHSA’s National Helpline:** 1-800-662-HELP (4357) Remember, you don’t need to have all the answers, but your willingness to listen and act can make all the difference.

Today is the inaugural 988 Day to raise awareness of 988, the national suicide crisis hotline. Did you know that autistic individuals are 9 times more likely to die by suicide, while also being far less likely to receive the support they need when in crisis? That’s because while the current suicide prevention system offers specialized support for high-risk groups like veterans and the LGBTQ+ community, it falls short of addressing the unique needs of autistic individuals, including differences in communication and sensory triggers. As someone on the spectrum, I can tell you firsthand how critical this issue is. That's why I'm launching Project 988, to raise awareness now and begin building a suicide crisis support hotline for autistic individuals. We cannot afford to overlook this glaring oversight any longer—lives depend on it. Stay tuned for updates, and join me in pushing for change. Together, we can make a difference. #988Day #Project988 #AutismAwareness #MentalHealth #CrisisSupport
