The #WorldCocoaConference which took place in Brussels this week gave a story of both hope and urgency. Beyond Chocolate Program Manager Charles Snoeck spoke on behalf of the ISCOs in the panel “The quest for the living income of smallholder farmers: why we are stuck and how can we fix it?” Conclusion of the panel: 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 🍫Living income is no longer peripheric but a central objective of cocoa stakeholders. 🍫We are finally talking about price! 🍫We are seeing stronger multistakeholder collaboration (ISCOs, Economic pact,...). 🍫Producing countries are taking ownership, for example through the Côte d'Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative. 🍫A regulatory framework on deforestation and human rights is now in place. HOWEVER 𝐖𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬. Key drivers for success are: 🍫Trust and transparency between cocoa stakeholders. 🍫Stability for cocoa farmers. Beyond Chocolate will continue to contribute to these goals by increasing accountability in the Belgian chocolate sector and by guiding stakeholder to implement holistic living income strategies. As such, the initiative together with the other national initiatives for sustainable cocoa in Europe has published a statement on sustainable procurement: https://lnkd.in/eej5iPZa Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium IDH German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa Mark de Waard Karen Janssens Koen Van Troos Wouter Vandersypen Philippe de Selliers de Moranville Ricardo Romero Perezgrovas Anne Widart Alexia Herwig #livingincome #BeyondChocolate

With sustainability at the core, Puratos Grand-Place proudly became a sponsor of Cocoa Association of Asia. Gricha Safarian, Managing Director of Puratos Grand-Place Indochina, emphasized the true essence of sustainability in his opening remarks. "Sustainability," Gricha said, "is about growing your business without harming the environment or communities around you. True sustainability means paying for what we use.” For the first time, 16 farmers from eight countries - Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Uganda, Bolivia, and Vietnam - came together in the Farmer Network at the Cocoa Association of Asia (CAA). This initiative was created to give a voice to the people who are often at the heart of the cocoa industry but rarely heard. The farmers discussed six key topics, guided by Selene Scotton: Sustainable Farming Practices, Innovative Technologies and Methods, Climate Change Adaptation, Market Access and Trade, Community Development and Farmer Cooperation, and Regulatory & Compliance. Representing Vietnam were: Ms. Nguyen Hong Thuong, Director of Nhat Tam Cooperative from Dak Lak Province, and Mr. Dong Tien Hung, Director of A1 Cocoa Company from Binh Phuoc Province. Alongside the Puratos Grand-Place team, they actively contributed to the discussions, highlighting Vietnam’s practices in cocoa farming. As we look ahead, we anticipate positive changes within the cocoa industry. By continuing to collaborate, share knowledge, and embrace innovation, we can ensure that cocoa remains a thriving, sustainable industry. #Puratos #PGPI #CAA #FarmerForum #Fruit #Farmer #Forest
