Meo Carbon Solutions is proud to announce that we are officially kicking off the CLEVER project, which aims to transform the way greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are calculated in the transportation sector. We are partnering with an international consortium of experts and stakeholders to address the challenge of establishing credible and standardized emission factors for all transport modes, fuels and production methods. The CLEVER project will create a comprehensive methodology covering the entire energy lifecycle—from production to end use. The project's framework will ensure consistency in calculating emissions for new energy sources, adaptability to industry changes and accurate and quantifiable emissions data for both policy and business purposes. Meo's role is to support the project with our expert knowledge and long-term experience in GHG emission calculations and developing and managing sustainability certification schemes for different markets. 🚢 Last week, on 3 December 2024, Mika Järvinen, our Scientific Coordinator from Aalto University, was invited to represent the Circular Fuels project at the 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event featured a panel debate and the launch of the 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗽, a strategy urging Nordic governments to bridge the cost gap for zero-emission fuels, advance green shipping corridors, and address fuel availability and technology barriers. Sustainability wins 🥇 The “Deutscher Award für Nachhaltigkeitsprojekte 2024” (German #Sustainability Projects Award) awarded our new electrified chamber furnace in the category Technology – Energy. The award honors companies and organizations promoting sustainable projects in various sectors. This award goes to all colleagues at Heraeus Precious Metals who made this possible!! In line with our target of being #netzero by 2033, we at have developed the world's first electric chamber furnace for the #recycling of precious metals: ➡️ It significantly reduces the dependence on natural gas for these processes and sets new standards in sustainable precious metal recycling. ➡️ We recover around 60% of the energy used in the connected waste gas treatment system. ♻️ ➡️ The savings potential: in total, electrification and heat recovery will save around 570 tons of CO2e and 2.25 million kilowatt hours of energy every year. 📉 ➡️ And this is only the beginning: After successful commissioning beginning end of 2024, we want to scale this concept to our locations worldwide. I was amazed to see innovations that felt like peeking into the future, offering a clear glimpse of where our industry is heading. The energy at the event was absolutely electric, with groundbreaking technologies and advancements at every turn. Meeting industry peers was another highlight that completely reshaped my thinking. The best part of these events is the incredible interactions with industry experts. They generously shared practical insights that are invaluable for formulating future strategies. These conversations are pure gold! Discussions on sustainability and cutting-edge materials truly ignited a fire in me. It was exhilarating to witness the future of materials across various industries — sustainable, advanced, and absolutely groundbreaking.
