Congratulations to the stellar team at Proxima Fusion, who just announced a €20M seed round (pre-empted and oversubscribed) to accelerate the timeline to building the first generation of fusion power plants, continuing their mission to lead Europe into a new era of clean energy, for good. This team and company represent Europe at its best – bringing audacious vision, radical ambition, world-class science and talent, public-private partnership, and visionary public investment together to create a viable path to fusion. As Ian Hogarth said early on: “I believe stellarators will leapfrog other approaches to fusion. Most critically they are the only approach that can operate in steady state (not pulsed) without disruptions. And Proxima Fusion as the spin out from W7-X is the team to take this foundation and put fusion on the grid.” redalpine led this round, with participation from Bayern Kapital, German government backed DeepTech & Climate Fonds, and the Max Planck Foundation. We’re thrilled to double down on our early commitment alongside our friends UVC Partners, TOMORROW from Visionaries Club, HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds and Wilbe. Shout out to co-founders Francesco Sciortino Jonathan Schilling Martin Kubie Lucio Milanese Jorrit Lion and entire Proxima Fusion team, who are building something very special and globally consequential from Munich. This is GDP-level impact in the making. More on the news below from TechCrunch's Mike Butcher ✍️

Big moves in clean energy! Pacific Fusion just blew the doors off the funding game with a staggering $900 million Series A—led by none other than General Catalyst. This isn't just another startup; this is fusion energy—the holy grail of sustainable power. Co-founders Eric L., Will Regan, and Keith LeChien have stacked the deck with a team that reads like the Avengers of nuclear fusion, pulling talent from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, ARPA-E, and Sandia National Laboratories. Yeah, they're serious! What makes this round extra slick? It’s milestone-based. This is money with a mission—capital unlocked as they hit key targets, keeping things sharp, and ensuring progress is real, not hype. Pacific Fusion’s pulsed magnetic fusion approach is not only built on proven science but also strategically aligned with some of the biggest breakthroughs in fusion tech. General Catalyst said it best: "We had doubts... until we met this team." With a focus on modular, fast-iterating designs and a goal to outpace traditional fusion methods, these guys are pushing the boundaries—and their approach just might be the game-changer the energy sector has been chasing. With this capital infusion, Pacific Fusion is primed to turn sci-fi into reality. Clean, limitless energy might just be closer than we think. Congrats to the team on securing this milestone, and here’s to a future powered by fusion. #CleanTech #CleanEnergy #FusionEnergy #FusionTech #VentureCapital #StartupFunding #BigAssSeriesA #TechEcosystem #Innovation #Technology #ForwardProgress

#LongStoryShort: Could this substantial investment in a fusion startup signal better times for venture dealmaking? Co-founded by MIT alumni Conner Galloway and Alexander Valys, Xcimer Energy Corporation has recently raised a $100 million Series A. The Denver-based company is focused on advancing nuclear fusion technology for clean energy. Xcimer's approach includes a redesigned laser system for higher energy output and a reactor that uses a molten salt waterfall to generate energy and protect the reactor walls. "The type of inertial fusion we’re pursuing has the best long-term economics,” Galloway told TechCrunch. Hedosophia, a London-based investment firm, has led the funding round with participation from a number of other managers. Xcimer plans to use the capital to develop a demonstration-scale laser system in the next two years. The Xcimer deal may also signal a revived interest in startup investing after a two-year slump. Although activity remains subdued and many investors exercise caution, global early-stage funding increased in the first quarter while some VCs predict European startup investing to return to growth in 2024, according to a recent Financial Times article. #PrivateMarkets #EnergySolutions #Fusion #DealMaking

Build Fusion energy generators Your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

🦄 According to Sifted, #UK based #NuclearEnergy startup newcleo is on a mission to raise €1 billion in equity this year. 🛂 Privately funded and headquartered in #London, newcleo was launched in 2021 – and since raised a total of € 400 million and aims to be an innovator in the field of nuclear energy. ☢ newcleo develops small modular reactors (SMRs) fuelled with radioactive waste, and the first close could come as soon as April, founder and CEO Stefano Buono tells Sifted. ⚠ If newcleo lands the billion Euro round, the raise will be the second largest in the nuclear sector globally — and the largest, by some way, in Europe. 🎫 Its mission is to generate safe, clean, economic and practically inexhaustible energy for the world, through a radically innovative combination of existing, accessible technologies. 🦄 With visionary co-founders; Elisabeth Rizzotti, Stefano Buono, Michele Battistin, and Maribel Lopera Sierra, newcleo capitalises on thirty years of R&D activity in metal-cooled fast reactors and liquid-lead cooling systems, and our senior management and advisory team can boast hundreds of years in cumulative hands-on experience. 🏭 newcleo plans to complete a research facility in Italy by 2026, as well as a fuel processing plant and a demonstrator reactor in France by 2030. And that’s before it launches its first revenue-making commercial reactor — possibly in the UK, says Stefano Buono — sometime after 2033 and then — eventually — deploys a fleet of its reactors across Europe. ☢ To get there, it will need to find big cheque investors with the patience of saints and convince governments to cough up their nuclear waste. 🔻 Read Sifted 's, by Kai Nicol-Schwarz full article here: https://lnkd.in/gntJaArS 🔦 We at the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands (SCCN) wish newcleo nothing but 💪 for their 2024 € 1 billion raise! . . . .
