Simple, inclusive celebrations Often parties and special occasions are a real challenge with a child (or adult) who does not eat widely. It is one of the places where a spotlight can be shined on a limited diet and where both parent and child feel uncomfortable. As special occasions are supposed to be ‘special’ for everyone, I am always looking for ways to be inclusive and therefore, make them joyful for the whole family. Using a bit of creativity, you can easily create menus that appeal to all. The beauty of these communal ideas is that they are a crowd pleaser no matter who is on the guest list. Many of the things that challenge your child can also be points of discomfort for others. There are many adults who have dietary restrictions and so having flexibility provides ease for both host and guests. If you are hosting a lunch, a dinner, or providing food for guests it is worth considering inclusive celebrations via: https://lnkd.in/guKPvv4C

Do you know people who seem totally comfortable in their own skin around food? They eat whatever they want whenever they want in whatever quantity they feel like. If people comment on their feeding habits, you can tell they couldn’t care less. My guess is that these folks are this “self-focused” in many (if not all) areas of their lives. Let’s talk about how they tune out what others think and tune into themselves. Read my new blog post. https://buff.ly/4bWROcX

Celebrating Connection Through Food: A Potluck to End Loneliness I’m so deeply moved and inspired by the incredible work of Jose’ Andres, José Andrés Group, World Central Kitchen and the initiative championing to combat loneliness. His recent involvement in a potluck dinner with Surgeon General Vivek Murthy aimed at fostering social connection through shared meals, really resonated with me. The message is clear: it’s not just about the food, it’s about the bonds we create when we gather around the table. 🍽️ As someone who believes in the power of food to bring people together, I couldn’t agree more. At Sticky Fingers Cooking®, we work every day to nurture those connections by teaching kids to cook, instilling in them a love of food, culture, and togetherness. What we’ve learned is that food isn’t just about nourishment – it’s about connection, community, and the joy of being present with others. José Andrés and the Surgeon General’s initiative are spot on in recognizing that shared meals can have a transformative impact on our mental and physical health. As we embrace this important work, let’s all remember: “every table is a community. How you gather it is up to you.” Here’s to fostering connection, one shared meal at a time. With much longer tables. ❤️ Thanks The New York Times for the article: https://lnkd.in/g5vDH3KB #ConnectionThroughFood #SocialImpact #Community #StickyFingersCooking #TogetherWeThrive #HealthyEating #Loneliness #JoséAndrés #SurgeonGeneral #FoodForTheSoul #NewYorkTimes

🌦️ As the weather changes, so do our routines, and that includes how we take care of ourselves, especially as educators. 🌱 These are few things you should do this season. 1. Keep a water bottle on your desk or in your bag and aim to refill it throughout the day. 2. Stock up on nutritious snacks like fruits, nuts, or granola bars to keep your energy levels stable and help you power through teaching. 3.Whether it’s a quick stroll around the playground or simple stretches during breaks, physical activity can boost your mood and keep you energized. 4. Dress in clothes for the season to stay comfortable throughout the day, and encourage your students to do the same. Let’s prioritize our health and happiness this season. #Linkedinteacher#the21stcenturyeducator #innovativeeducator#TeacherWellness #StayHydrated #PositiveMindset #HealthAndWellness #TeachingCommunity

How do you like your eggs in the morning? And other key questions! One of the things about personalising care is making sure it respects the routines and habits of a person. Sometimes, we have to tweak these but at other times we can keep the same habits. Care is often wrongly driven by what is the most practical, and sometimes the most convienient. It can also be driven by time pressures - perhaps it's important to get a wash done first, rather than a cup of tea, because drinking tea can be done at leisure later, but eats up 20 minutes of a visit if done first. In all these things there is a balance to be had. We try very hard to help people to support the routines they have had over a lifetime. This can be especially valuable where there are elements of memory loss and older routines are well embedded and allow people to continue to function for longer. We strive to always provide responsive, proactive care that meets the needs of the people who use it. We offer free, no obligation chats and advice and would be delighted to have a chat if you are not sure about what help is available or how to organise it. You can contact me on 0208 650 7264.
