Just over a dozen clinicians throughout the country operating in states with shield laws are using telemedicine to provide timely, confidential, and highly effective medication abortion to *thousands* of people in banned states each month. While the $150 cost of this care is far less than is charged by clinics, it is nonetheless out of reach for one-fifth to one-fourth of people seeking telemedicine care. Our fund helps ensure the work of telemedicine clinicians continues by reimbursing them for a share of the losses that would otherwise put them out of business. The United Nations Population Fund calculates that nearly 257 million women worldwide – most of whom live in low-income and middle-income countries – have an unmet need for modern contraception, which increases their vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, as well as to unintended pregnancy, unsafe abortion and preventable maternal death. On this World Contraception Day, we're joining the campaign which is calling for access to contraception to be a human right. It furthers the health and well-being not just of women and girls, but of their families and societies. Yet around the world, escalating inequality – tied to factors including race, displacement, education and income – makes accessing contraceptives more difficult for millions of people, particularly women and girls. Progress is being made, yet there is much to be done. While many countries have increased spending on contraceptives, there’s a growing gap in funding for contraceptives globally – a gap that will reach at least $1.5 billion in low-income and middle-income countries by 2030. A shortfall that could have devastating repercussions for women and girls. This World Contraception Day we must invest in women’s and girls’ freedom to plan their own futures. Please consider donating to help women, girls and people who can become pregnant in #SouthCarolina. A medication #abortion in #SouthCarolina is an average of around $600. For the rare instance that #abortioncare seekers can get a "medically necessary" abortion at MUSC through one of the "exceptions" written into the state's 6-week ban, that cost is $3,100. Most people now have to travel out of state, which increases their financial burden, the financial burden, and puts a strain on clinics in non-ban states like #Virginia. This means the Palmetto State Abortion Fund are now helping callers find a clinic that can see them the quickest, as well as helping them figure out and pay for travel and lodging. Palmetto State Abortion Fund estimate that $750 is needed for each caller, and they can't always provide that. How Does Palmetto State Abortion Fund Use Your Donations? The entire team is ran by #volunteers, and their overhead is minimal (website, email software) so donations go directly to funding abortion care. They work with the clinics directly to ensure that patients are taken care of. They are funded by small-dollar donations, and receive no grant funding for direct services work.

This Men's Health Week, let's remember that abortion impacts men, too. Research by Support After Abortion shows that 71% of men (nearly half of whom are pro-choice) report experiencing adverse effects after their partner's abortion, including mental health challenges. One man said: "My ex-girlfriend was pregnant and we decided to get an abortion. I’m feeling regret and having panic attacks about it. I need to talk to someone." Two years ago, Roe v. Wade was overturned in the United States. This is a chilling anniversary to mark. One we didn’t think we would see a few years ago. As we have said repeatedly: abortions happen whether they are legal or not. When folks seek abortion care outside of a regulated medical facility, the possibilities of infection, permanent damage, or even death are many. We cannot ever stop fighting to ensure abortion access stays legal. We need to continue our work to ensure folks can access abortion care no matter where they live. WHC provides up to 600 more abortion procedures than we are funded for every year. That amounts to $300,000 in overall costs with these additional procedures. We have been able to deliver this because of generous donations from our community, but we need long-term solutions to ensure we are adequately funded and resourced to continue delivering our crucial care.
