Surf's Up, Melbourne! $171 Million Mega-Water Park Gets Go-Ahead (largest in Southern Hemisphere!) The Dingley 'Surf n Play' Aquatic Park has been approved, set to become the largest aquatic park in the southern hemisphere. Located at 321 Old Dandenong Road, Dingley Village, this 5.7ha site will be a game-changer for local and international visitors alike. Designed by Peddle Thorp Melbourne, the minds behind the Melbourne Aquarium and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre, here is a summary of the project: ♦️Facilities: Melbourne's second wave pool, water slides, hi-tech water tunnels, and both indoor (18,200sqm) and outdoor (20,000sqm) space ♦️Construction Cost: $171 million ♦️Expected Jobs: 579 short-term & 120 long-term ♦️Completion Date (estimated): 2027 The $171-million project, spearheaded by Pellicano, was delayed due to environmental assessments but has now been greenlit under the Victorian Government’s Development Facilitation Program. As part of the approval, Pellicano will plant 1000 native trees on the site, ensuring a sustainable development approach. Construction is set to begin in the coming months, with completion expected in 2027. The park aims to attract 767,000 visitors in its first year, with a significant portion coming from interstate and overseas, positioning Melbourne as a key destination for aquatic fun.
