Carsten Borchers opened hydrogen stage at the #EnergyTechSummit today: “#Hydrogen is labelled as champagne of the energy transition. I dont think this is right. We can expect many learning curves along the hydrogen value chain, which has a potential to make hydrogen as accessable and affordable as tap water.” Are you also at Energy Tech Summit today? Come talk to us!

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) has announced $8.8 million in funding for 11 university-led research projects aimed at improving hydrogen-fueled turbine performance. These projects focus on developing advanced materials and components that can handle the extreme conditions of hydrogen combustion, enabling the use of up to 100% clean hydrogen in gas turbines. This initiative supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s goals of achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035 and a net-zero emissions economy by 2050. By advancing hydrogen technology, these projects will also help create robust supply chains and good-paying jobs in the power and industrial sectors. Day Three takeaways to consider for our National Science Foundation (NSF) funded phase I work: > We talk extensively about blade loading and stress when the rotor is spinning during operation, but even when a wind turbine is idling, the blades can experience large loads and deformations, which can put high stress on the entire structure-perhaps an easier problem to model with substantially attractive benefits. > Sometimes leading edge erosion can create a hole on the leading edge of the wind turbine blade large enough you can put your whole hand in it > “We test at the highest Reynolds number we can afford.” - the wind energy industry is all about optimization, from design to operation to research and experimental testing. Stay tuned for Day 4 insights! John Hall James J. Roetzer Benjamin Janke Hunter Boik Edward Tierney Barry Sanders Tim Stephens, Ph.D., MBA Mark Sperry Paul Buckley Mara Schindelholz Chris Sutton Angelo D'Ettore Michele Damiano David Attwood
Day 3 at Sandia National Laboratories Blade Workshop at the foot of the Sandia Mountains in Albuquerque…the Atrevida Science team, surrounded by wind turbine blade experts and innovators, gathered more information about customer challenges and got a peak into the future of wind energy research and solutions. Looking forward to what’s next! #windenergy #offshorewind #innovation David Attwood
