What does sustainability truly mean? Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the launch of Equity Group Holdings’ Sustainability 2023 with the compelling theme: “A Sustainable World is a Transformed Africa This theme, reminded me of 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝟐:𝟏𝟓, which is a call to us to be stewards of God’s creation. Here are the key Highlights from the Report: 💡Environmental Stewardship - Carbon reduction goals, renewable energy investments, and resource management. 💡Social Impact - Empowering communities, promoting financial inclusion, and fostering a diverse workplace. 💡Governance and Transparency - Ethical practices, stakeholder engagement, and enhanced governance frameworks. Why It Matters: ✅ Vision for Transformation - Demonstrates how a sustainable world starts with a transformed Africa, integrating environmental care, social equity, and strong governance. ✅ Leadership in Action - Shows Equity Group’s dedication to leading by example in creating impactful solutions for the continent. ✅ Inspiration for Change - Provides valuable insights for other organizations committed to sustainable development. I left the summit with renewed commitment and a heart full of hope. 🌍 South Africa's Future: Where Global ESG Meets Local Impact 🌱 In a world that's rapidly embracing Environmental, Social, and Governance (#ESG) principles, we at #SocioTech are proud to be leading the charge in South Africa. Through our Broad-Based Livelihoods (BBL) Programme, we're not just adopting global sustainability goals #SDGs —we're redefining them to fit our unique South African socio-economic context. How? By focusing on the triple P (PEOPLE, PLANET, PROFIT) that is usually linked to the broad terms of "#sustainability" but which we bring in an innovative and forward-focused philosophy of - #regenerative #livelihoods (PEOPLE), #regenerativefarming (PLANET), and regenerative profit (PROFIT). Instead of merely sustaining what we have, we're committed to regenerating South Africa's poorest villages — starting with regenerating our BBL participants' mind from a deep-seated ever-growing dependency mindset to one of freedom through one's own God given talents and self-employment. Starting with regenerative agricultural methods in their home-based gardens, participants are taught to see the world in a new way and to be empowered in their new self-belief that they can indeed generate a livelihood where they are, using what they have and without being dependent on anyone. The village benefits as people whose self-belief is regenerated are encouraged to pass on this knowledge to others. It’s about more than just survival; it’s about thriving for all... and indeed a regenerative approach to socio economic development! And the impact? 700+ underprivileged villages are now on a path to self-reliance and resilience. This isn't just about meeting global goals—it's about creating a future where South African communities are the driving force behind their own success.
