A Theory of Change model is a comprehensive methodology used to map out the steps necessary to achieve a long-term goal. It involves identifying the desired outcomes, the interventions required to achieve those outcomes, and the assumptions underlying the connections between activities and results. The model is iterative and flexible, allowing organisations to adapt their strategies based on ongoing learning and feedback. At HOST, our Theory of Change model guides our work with former refugees and migrants. Our vision is a world where these individuals are welcomed and empowered. Our practical and advocacy efforts aim to influence policies for refugee rights, while capacity-building enhances our staff and stakeholders’ skills. We base our approach on manaakitanga, community and policy engagement. By gathering information and continuously learning, we refine our strategies for effective, sustainable impact and adapt to emerging challenges. To read more about the Theory of Change model and how we utilise it, read further on our website: https://lnkd.in/e9YumzFU #individualwellbeing #community #systemschange #TheoryOfChange #formerrefugees #migrants #inclusion

The South African Human Rights Commission recently hosted a crucial dialogue on Migration in South Africa. South Africa’s migration landscape is a complex mix of documented and undocumented migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons contributing to both the country’s socio-economic dynamism and challenges in social cohesion, human rights, and policy enforcement. It was an honor to join the dedicated Commissioner for Migration and esteemed colleagues from Xenowatch, Disabled Migrants Rights Networking Orgs, and IOM on a panel to discuss and develop collaborative strategies for addressing these challenges. The discussions underscored the importance of ensuring that human rights and dignity must be upheld for all—because human dignity knows no borders. #endstatelessness #humanrights #migrantrights #refugeerights #dignity #immigrationjustice

Refugees and immigrants across the U.S. are playing a vital role in reviving local economies and significantly contributing to tax revenue. In Pennsylvania alone, the immigrant community generated over $1.7 billion in revenue and increased spending power by $24 billion in 2019. With Pennsylvania becoming one of the states with a rapidly growing refugee population, it's clear that more needs to be done to support these communities. Despite this growth, PA still lacks an Office of New Americans. Yesterday, I had the honor of representing Refugee Civic Action alongside many fellow refugee leaders at an advocacy event organized by Church World Service in the PA Capitol. We lobbied for bipartisan support of HB 1630, which would establish an office dedicated to addressing the unique needs of refugees and new Americans. This is a crucial step toward ensuring more effective support and resources for these communities. #ImmigrantImpact #RefugeesWelcome #EconomicImpact #DiversityAndInclusion #ImmigrationReform

Addressing DFV within migrant and refugee communities requires a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach that respects diverse backgrounds. Our work with the SETSCoP (Settlement Engagement and Transition Support Community of Practice) has enabled us to co-develop and co-design resources to better support frontline settlement service providers who may have to address DFV in their work by finding strategies to build trust and collaborate towards effective pathways. Special thanks to the Social Impact Studio for co-facilitating our community of practice subgroup and members of the SETSCoP who contributed.
