✨MY FIRST HACKATON EXPERIENCE : LOCAL ENERGIX ✨ Last weekend , I had the incredible opportunity to participate in my first-ever hackathon: the local energix organized by sustainabuilding UM6P Club in collaboration with Student Organizations, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE) - UM6P and Maghreb Steel . The challenge? To propose innovative ideas to make houses greener, smarter, and more sustainable. What made this experience truly unforgettable wasn’t just the project (which had its ups and downs) but everything surrounding it. The preparation kicked off with an inspiring seminar by industry experts at 2 PM, setting the stage for the real challenge, which began at 5 PM. From that point on, it was a nonstop rollercoaster of brainstorming, prototyping, simulations, and teamwork. ✨ Highlights of the Hackathon: - Staying awake for more than 30 hours straight - a first for me as someone who values a healthy routine! - Surviving on over 7 espressos and 2 energy drinks to fight off sleep. - Working in pajamas and blankets, making the best of a cozy yet intense environment. - Collaborating with an amazing team under pressure, sharing ideas, and learning together. - Immersing myself in the dynamic ambiance, where creativity and problem-solving thrived. While I didn’t walk away with a win, I left with something far more valuable: a deep appreciation for the process, countless lessons, and an unforgettable experience. Hackathons test your limits, push you to think critically, and remind you of the power of teamwork and resilience. I’m so grateful to have been part of this journey, and I can’t wait to take on more challenges like this in the future! I am pleased to share that my participation in the Global Citizen program, provided by Universitas 21 and Common Purpose, has come to an end, leaving me with positive emotions and excitement for future collaborations. Following the first two weeks of the program, during which I focused on number 3 and 4 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, namely, Good Health and Well-Being and Quality Education, I dedicated my final week in the program exploring the targets for collaboration and strengthening partnerships outlined in #SDG17’s plan. My takeaway form this week is that it seems that we are yet to discover the perfect recipe for building successful and long-lasting partnerships. However, I strongly believe that the way forward is through strengthening our cultural awareness, demonstrating unconditional respect for humans and leading with a sense of purpose and moral responsibility. I am going to continue working towards advancing the goals that I have committed to, with a reinforced interest specifically in SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-Being, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. This program has been an incredible opportunity for meeting many inspiring people during these past few weeks, whose invaluable insight and lessons from life have left me with more questions than answers. CONGRATULATIONS SEBS 😍 💃🏾 🕺🏾 One Saturday Afternoon, I was met with a big brother and his friends at Greenwood Event Centre, Kumasi for a friend's wedding. At a stone's throw away from them with my majestic walking as if the place belongs to me 😂, I was met with a round of applause, as they exclaimed, "Congratulations to you SEBS, we have seen what you are doing with "SEBSpiration Summit, Scientific Workshops and other Continuous Development Projects and although, we don't comment or react to them, we are proud of you. Keep it up!" I tried to pretend to be indifferent about their compliments but couldn't help but smile. Their Congratulations were not for anything extraordinary I was doing although I am trying my best, but it was for my consistency as an inspirational leader because when I started, they were there with me. I started my Inspirational Journey Officially in 2015. I used to write short inspirational messages "SEBS Writes" and share them on WhatsApp platforms and other church pages. I also organized mini workshops in few churches where I would preach and also encourage people. A lot of people found me inspirational because they knew I was mourning my Father's demise but was also inspiring others regardless. Over the years, I have built my communication skills which has influenced my inspirational speeches and in my write-ups. I have also added soft skills like leadership, management, organization, etc, making me highly resourceful to the few organizations opportunities permit me to serve. Naturally I know how to put things together from very limited resources because I am passionate, creative and innovative but also lose interest easily when I do the same thing over and over again, thus my special proclivity towards growth and change. From 2023-2024, I have intentionally dedicated myself to building new skills in Project Management, Marketing and Technology. Day 11 of the #20daysContentChallengewith the Africa Agility Foundation I'm happy to be alive to see this beautiful week. As my new habit, I like to reflect on the previous week, which has brought me to today's post. Toward the end of last week, my team had an impediment that almost shocked the team's productivity, which led to me calling an urgent meeting with the product chief and OBM chief to understand what the problem was. This pointed us to a root cause; a team member taught it better to go against the team plan and implemented hers. How did I feel? I was frustrated, but then I had to put my feelings aside to find out why. After I got off the call with her, my frustrated self was relieved, not just because I spoke my truth and coached her but because I learned something new. Knowing that it wasn't on purpose, she didn't know better, and finding out she had a very brilliant idea we could implement later on in the project and also apologizing to the team for her mistake has taught me to always give people the opportunity to explain themselves before writing them off or concluding they wanted to hurt things. This brings me to this saying. "Listen to understand and not to respond." "Put yourself in other's shoes."
