** New post alert ** On the Blog Symposium of the Intersectional Rewrites project, Rosana Garciandia writes: "Human rights bodies and courts at the supranational level have increasingly (albeit timidly) engaged with the notion of intersectionality, in an attempt to transcend the siloed approach that the definition of specific human rights has entailed for decades." While the European Court of Human Rights has not yet engaged with intersectionality in an explicit way, she argues that applying an intersectional lens to human rights protection is simply the most natural consequence of the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights. My contribution to the 2023 European Yearbook on Human Rights is finally available online! The article critically analyses the interpretative technique that the ECtHR has used in its jurisprudence on access to abortion, and proposes a feminist interpretation of ECHR's relevant provisions. Although such an interpretation would require the Court to overcome the boundaries of the rules on treaty interpretation, implementing it in its jurisprudence would not render its interpretation any more subjective than it already is. If you are interested, you can find the article here:

For entirety of the Pacific, Marshall Islands is passionate about reviewing all Human Rights mechanisms towards full enjoyment of life, clean and sustainable environment for all children, women and men. The Marshall Islands and the greater Pacific Islands demand truths for the testing of the nuclear weapons programs, and large countries to urgently implement our climate change adaptation strategies as the most vulnerable countries facing the adversaries of sea-level rise, droughts, coral bleaching, land erosion, plants scarcity, food security, and other fundamental challenges.

🗓️10.12—International Human Rights Day Today we celebrate International Human Rights Day! The celebration commemorates the anniversary of one of the world's most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) United Nations which was proclaimed in Paris in 1948. 🌍This landmark document is a global blueprint for international, national, and local laws and policies. It enshrines the rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being— regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status. This year the theme of the day is: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. The goal? Highlighting the importance of observing human rights in an everyday context such as speaking up against hate speech, correcting misinformation, and countering disinformation. One of the key features to promoting human rights is a strong rule-of-law culture and the CEELI Institute's work supports that cause through training and resources. We are committed to empowering legal professionals and civil society leaders and to spreading the importance of respecting human rights. Today is International Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1948. It has been a mainly positive instrument for governments and people across the world despite the many convention breaches and conflicts we have witnessed indirectly, and sometimes sadly directly since 1948. Just shows how fragile humanity can be and yet with each breach, it confirms the need for the protection of rights especially with the most vulnerable people in society. Social work is a profession that explicitly promotes human rights. Let's not give up hope for a peaceful and a sustainable world. 🌏 🙏🙏🏻🙏🏾 #UDHR #HumanRights International Federation of Social Workers BASW UK BASW Diaspora Social Workers SIG Social Work England

At Nazareth Bonifacino Law, we believe that human rights are the foundation for a just and equitable society, and when we ensure these rights are upheld, we can create pathways to sustainable solutions and help empower individuals and communities to forge a better tomorrow. December is Universal Human Rights Month and today we commemorate International Human Rights Day, the anniversary of one of the world’s most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is this landmark document, signed 76 years ago, that enshrines the inalienable rights that every person is entitled to, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status. This year’s theme, "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now," is a clarion call, an important reminder that the fight for human rights is urgent, especially in times of crisis. Economic rights are an integral piece of human rights. The ability to access economic opportunities, build businesses, and secure fair wages are fundamental human rights that allow us to fully participate in society and shape the futures we desire. Together, let’s champion human and economic rights and be part of the movement to create peaceful, just, and inclusive communities around the world. #NazarethBonifacinoLaw #HumanRightsDay2024 #UniversalHumanRightsMonth #EconomicJustice #OurRightsOurFuture

10 December 2024: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. Today marks Human Rights Day, commemorating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. At the Dutch Institute for Safe & Secure Spaces, we recognise that safe and secure spaces are fundamental to protecting human rights and fostering inclusive, resilient societies. Through our research and collaborations, we develop strategies and tools to ensure public spaces remain publicly accessible, private spaces remain private, and personal spaces remain personal, whilst protecting individual freedoms and rights. We secure human rights and ethics in our works in different ways. For example through the themes we focus on. Tools and projects we contribute to address a wide range of issues that threaten human rights, such as labour exploitation, human trafficking and criminal exploitation. We have also established policy on equality, equity and inclusion, for example through our Equality Plan. All of this is due to our drive to create and support environments where human rights flourish. Check out this great article by HRCA Steering Committee members Gaea Morales and Anthony Tirado Chase on why cities can take the lead on human rights!
Some cities are taking the lead on human rights, as countries back-track. Gaea Morales and Anthony Tirado Chase argue this is more than just a defensive tactic—it may also be part of a needed paradigm shift. https://lnkd.in/es9AnufD
