It's not because a company is about to exit our portfolio that we no longer follow its glorious flight. In the process of being acquired by Merck, the Montbonnot-based leader in chips metrology and inspection, UnitySC has just unveiled its future production facility, to be opened in 2026, a stone's throw from the existing buildings. 🔜 A four-fold increase in the manufacturing of those complex controlling equipment, vital to the semiconductor industry. 🔜 An additional 100 new jobs. 🔜 An exemplary building (wood structure, straw insulation, recycled metal cladding, solar powered) 🔜 A significant financial support from the France 2030 governmental initiative. When growth is well balanced, it's a beautiful thing indeed. Only recently, the German government announced drastic cuts to battery research in Germany. We therefore feel VERY relieved that the funding for our joint project named “Battery-Attest” together with Fraunhofer-Einrichtung Forschungsfertigung Batteriezelle FFB has been secured. This funding ensures we can continue our mission to revolutionize the battery manufacturing process, making e-mobility safer, more efficient, and more accessible - and can help to contribute to relevant innovation happening in Germany. The purpose of the “Battery-Attest” project is to develop a high-speed CT system for 3D inline quality assurance of battery cells. It aims to make battery cell production and recycling more sustainable. Nevertheless, we can only be half-happy, as the young, innovative battery sector in Germany, and thus the industrial location, is being massively damaged by these cost-cutting plans. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive progress and excellence in battery technology. #CT #Batterytechnology #Emobility #Electricvehicles #Automotiveindustry

A report by Capgemini Automotive and RWTH Aachen University published the Pioneering Battery Cell Development with Digital Toolchains and Strategic Partnerships 🔋 As we edge closer to 2030, the demand for advanced battery technologies is surging, spurred by global sustainability goals and the electrification of transport. PEM RWTH Aachen University with other collaborations are at the forefront, addressing the pressing need for faster, more efficient battery cell production. 🌐 The forecast for 2030 indicates a vast gap between projected demand (4,917 GWh) and planned capacities (10,959 GWh). Notably, Europe is escalating gigafactory developments, aiming to bridge this gap, fueled by initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act in North America and ongoing advancements in China. ⚙️ Challenges in Battery Cell Development: 🔹High product and process complexity increases lead times in development and production planning. 🔹Limited public data and unclear inter-departmental interfaces hamper efficient workflows. 🔹Current development cycles for lithium-ion batteries can span up to a decade due to overlapping phases from research to commercial samples. 🔧 Proposed Solutions: 🔹Integrate product development more closely with production planning early in the cycle. 🔹Use digital end-to-end toolchains and simulation models to reduce complexity and streamline processes - hashtag #DigitalTwins 🔹Emphasize data transparency and traceability across the development cycle to enhance decision-making and reduce costs. 🌟 Technology Cluster Battery Cell Initiative: This collaboration involves Capgemini, PEM RWTH Aachen University PEM Motion, and Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB. It aims to catalyse innovation by developing new methods and toolchains that dramatically shorten the battery cell development process from concept to scaled production. 💡 Innovative Approach: 🔹Standardized processes and early coupling of product and process development are crucial. 🔹Simulations reduce the need for physical prototypes, speeding up validation and testing phases. 🔹Digital toolchains support seamless data and information transfer across the development stages, enhancing both product and process integration. 🚀 Outlook: By harnessing cutting-edge digital tools and fostering close industry-academia partnerships, it is aimed to set new standards in battery production that align with ambitious zero-emission goals. The future of electromobility depends on our ability to innovate swiftly and sustainably, see the work of Waygate Technologies, PXL-ICE and UKBIC on #DigiTWIN funding by The Faraday Institution.
