🗣 “There are challenges to [making a better margin], getting the right blend of contract terms being one. A lot of clients are sensible about contract terms and we try and align ourselves to those customers.” That’s the view from Build UK’s Vice Chair Paul Brown, from John Sisk & Son, who shares his thoughts on the challenges facing the construction industry and the need for an appropriate level of risk transfer. Build UK’s recommendation on contract terms identifies six contract terms that should be avoided in order to promote collaboration and realise better project outcomes. Read our guidance on implementing these recommendations, which sets out how to manage underlying issues in a more collaborative way, with specific guidance for both JCT and NEC contracts 👇 https://bit.ly/409DwCv

🏆 Galliford Try Tops Monthly Contracts League The company's major win was the £135m Wigan Galleries town centre redevelopment project. It also secured the second phase of the Dolphin Square Restoration Project in central London, a large 1930s-built residential complex in Pimlico. Developer/contractor S1 Developments ranked second, with a significant residential project to deliver the southern expansion of Edinburgh Park in the Scottish capital for developer Parabola. In the 12-month rolling league of work won, Morgan Sindall continues to lead the chasing pack. However, second-placed Kier is closing in as the two contractors battle to be crowned the winner for 2024. According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the value of projects secured by the leading 50 contractors fell sharply in November to £2.1bn, down from £3.4bn in October and £4.4bn in September. #Construction

A global hub, a sister city, and a “big city with a small-town feel,” Chicago’s essence remains unshakable. The 6-time champions city. The ‘85 Bears city. The 2005 World Series Champs city. The city that broke a century-old curse. The Stanley Cup city. 4-time MLS Champs town. The WNBA champions city. Chicago is a city of champions with a winning mentality. How do we sustain that mentality? How do we continue to succeed? We succeed by uniting to focus on what truly matters to our residents and by making Chicago a city people aspire to call home. Whether they come from another city, state, or country, Chicago should continue to be a beacon for those striving to build a better life for themselves and their families. With its abundant fresh water, vibrant air and rail system, remarkable architecture, rich art and culture, and ample green spaces, Chicago’s strengths far outweigh its challenges. Yet, our challenges offer us a unique opportunity to come together and find solutions. How can we do it? By focusing on fixing the fundamentals. Link in comments. 👇
