To all those involved in causing restrictions, suspensions, and career sabotage, I ask: why is it wrong to stand in solidarity against the man-made suffering that drives oppressive and brutal regimes, ethnic cleansing, and humanitarian crises? As we witness ongoing tragedies in Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, and other regions, the relentless abuse of power driven by greed for wealth and dominance is profoundly disturbing. Why are those who take pleasure in or benefit from such suffering rewarded and supported? How can anyone find peace knowing they contribute to these injustices? How can we claim to uphold values while selectively applying them only when convenient for personal gain, such as promotions or awards? These contradictions highlight a grave failure to adhere to genuine principles of justice and humanity. It is imperative that we confront these issues honestly and strive to ensure that our values are reflected in our actions, not just our words.

If the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) is recognized as the only lifeline for the people of Gaza, providing essential humanitarian aid amidst visible and deliberate attacks on its workers and facilities; attacks that blatantly disregard their neutrality and the sanctity of international law; how can the UN Security Council, particularly its veto-wielding permanent members, justify their inaction in ensuring accountability and protection? Does this inaction not signal complicity in undermining both the principles of humanitarian justice and the trust of billions, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, who look to the UN as the ultimate guarantor of impartiality, fairness, and the rule of law? Anybody? António Guterres ?
UNRWA is an irreplaceable lifeline for millions of Palestinians. Its extensive network of staff and infrastructure is needed now more than ever. UNRWA has more schools, medical facilities, warehouses, offices and staff than all other humanitarian agencies in the Occupied Palestinian Territory combined. No other entity has the capacity or reach to deliver lifesaving aid and social and development services at the scale and the breadth needed in Gaza, and in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in general. UNRWA is a factor of stability and trust. At a time when law and order in Gaza have completely broken down, the void that will be left without UNRWA would be impossible to fill.

Colleagues, we all know what is happening in our SWANA region. We all want to help the children and families who are forcibly displaced and caught up in emergencies in #Palestine, #Lebanon and #Syria. It is important to note that I am ready to help with all of my networks, and knowledge of the SWANA region considering my experience in emergency and crisis response in the Syrian war. Some of my colleagues in Lebanon and Syria who I had the honour to work with in the UN, in local organizations, or on crisis response MEL programs are still there on the ground, working everyday. These are experts who have immense experiences in Humanitarian coordination, Advocacy, and MEL. This is not their first war. they know the community needs. they know what works and what doesn't. if your organizations are looking to support children and families in Lebanon and Syria, or are looking to set up regional offices, national offices etc. please hire and prioritise the local consultants and experts in Lebanon and Syria to help you with this. You won't only get better results and impact for your work. but also support local humanitarian experts who are trying to support their families during these uncertain times. Please come to me for questions, recommendations, or to learn more about what's happening I will be happy to link you/ chat to you and support with what I can. our children and families there need us all to take action.. They have no one, no economy, no infrastructure and no global support. #saveLebanon #savePalestine #saveSyria #localConsultants #localExperts

Attacks on UNRWA are attacks on the UN and the multilateralism it represents. There is no alternative to UNRWA, there is no alternative to the UN. Philippe Lazarrini, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA discusses at the Institute for Advanced Studies. All member states committed to peace and rule of law should support UNRWA politically and financially. https://lnkd.in/dztXGneh

Good Neighbors Provided Help in Gaza Strip 🚨 We are responding to the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and persons with disabilities (PWDs) affected by the Israel-Hamas Conflict in the Gaza Strip. In collaboration with the Italian NGO, EducAid , a total of 260 households—approximately 1,709 individuals—received hygiene and dignity kits. These kits included essential items such as soap, sanitary pads, body wash, cotton towels, and shampoo. We are planning strategically to enhance its interventions in the Middle East, particularly focusing on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. This initiative will involve collaborating with local or international organizations. By establishing a more substantial presence in these areas, we hope to make a meaningful impact on those suffering from the consequences of conflict and displacement, ultimately working towards a more sustainable commitment. Read more about our ongoing efforts: https://lnkd.in/gBVdtEEW At Good Neighbors, we respect the human rights of our neighbors suffering from disasters and enable them to rebuild hope. #GoodNeighbors #Gaza #IsraelHamas

It was an honour to give a DISC training to the Chiefs of Mission of the UN International Organisation for Migrants, #IOM, people who are doing such meaningful work. If you've ever found yourself out of a job or experienced other unexpected shocks, you may have felt the pain of instability. But imagine being driven out of your home and land with nowhere to go and no prospects. How grateful you might be to find a hand reaching out to help you. The IOM is one such organisation. They work with migrants, ie. people who have been displaced and/or are returning to the places they had to abandon. The chiefs of missions on this course worked with migrants in South America, Europe and Africa. When I heard that the IOM team in Mozambique consisted of 900 people, I was floored. How many displaced people could there be in a country to need 900 people to help them? What is your guess? I looked up the history (you may already know this of course). Mozambique was a country rich in natural resources but rife with conflict. There were already internal conflicts when in 2011 gas was discovered in Cabo Delgado. Energy companies moved in quickly, displacing hundreds of families. The unrest made it a breeding ground for extremism. In 2017 Jihadist Shabbab fighters began attacking companies and civilians alike. Villages were burnt, people were beheaded and thousands fled for safety. (I struggle deeply with the fact that humans can be convinced that carrying out atrocious acts of violence will ensure them a place in heaven. But I digress). At the height of the conflict in 2021 A MILLION people had been displaced and thousands killed. Since then government forces have gradually contained the extremists, and hundreds of thousands of displaced migrants are now seeking to return to their villages. I understand now that the outstretched hands of 900 IOM personnel are nowhere near enough to provide the needed help. Back in the land of 'DISC your way to Effective Leadership' I was touched by the honesty of the IOM Chiefs of Mission as we explored their strengths, weaknesses, communication preferences and time management styles, and the effectiveness thereof in working with the styles of the team members they were leading. Humans are complicated beings and while no method will map accurately onto any one person, I find it enlightening to start a journey of discovery within a team based on the results of their #DISC personality profiling tests. In a safe environment (and yes I know that it takes an amazing leader to create that), team members can be made aware of each other's natural tendencies so they can communicate and cooperate in a way that draws on the strengths and provides support for the weaknesses of individual members. I am grateful to Ramin Kaweh and Julie Charef at #NexusConsulting for the opportunity to engage with IOM. They are both delightful to work with! #Leadership #Communication #TeamBuilding

New publication from the GOAL project exploring the governance of MHPSS response in Lebanon 🇱🇧
🚨New Publication 🚨 Our new article entitled: « Barriers and enablers to a coordinated MHPSS response in Lebanon: A case study of the MHPSS Taskforce » as part of the GOAL project in Lebanon is out. Our findings show that the positioning of MHPSS within the humanitarian cluster system acts as a barrier to mounting an effective response, with the MHPSS Taskforce sometimes siloed rather than integrated across clusters. Gosh UNRWA, why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? If there were no innocent Gazan civilians in Rafah, there could be no innocent Gazan civilian casualties. International Humanitarian Law requires countries to allow innocent civilians to flee a combat area across the nearest non-combatant border. So why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? We know that the terrorists and oligarchs are allowed to cross the Egyptian border whenever they want, either through the tunnels, or with bribes. Why are the vulnerable required to stay in Gaza?
“Every day is a struggle to provide for my family. […] Though our circumstances are difficult, I find UNRWA’s assistance a lifeline” says 19-year-old Jamal. UNRWA provides critical aid to families in #Gaza, but much more is needed. Safe humanitarian access is key to save lives.
