With new regulations, an influx of climate funds and gas & water infrastructure reaching end of life, municipalities especially in New York State have a lot of potential to be apart of the thermal energy network/district energy space but it requires partnering with the private sector, the non profit sector and most importantly, the community. ******************************************************************************** My work as a former NYSERDA Clean Energy Intern at the City of Albany, New York was of interest to a few a people so my report is now posted on my site. (Inspired by my recent attendance at the Cornell Sustainability Leadership Summit on Oct 20th!) The report covers: equity concerns and TENs role in climate justice the TEN regulation landscape in New York State potential ownership models TENS and their possible relationship with municipal water & sewer departments a municipalty's possible role in utility company owned TEN (or UTEN) my recommendations for municipalities especially in NYS And even if you are not a municipal official, the report is valuable to read gives a sense of the concerns of the municipal officials who the TENs/district energy industry would inevitably have to work with. https://lnkd.in/gZpEuz47

The University of Warwick has showcased its leading role in research into decarbonisation at a roundtable event. The event, attended by key figures from government, industry, and academia, including Baroness Sheehan, Chair of the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Select Committee, focused on heat networks and was organised by the Sustainable Thermal Energy Technologies research group in the School of Engineering. Heat networks have a vital role to play in the race to decarbonise UK heating and cooling, a sector that currently accounts for over a third of UK emissions. They supply heat from a central source to consumers, via a network of underground pipes carrying hot water. This approach, as opposed to one where individual buildings generate their own heat (e.g. from a gas boiler), is seen as a leading solution to decarbonising the UK’s heating and cooling sector. The roundtable, held at The Shard in London, was an opportunity to showcase the University’s commitments to decarbonisation among representatives from key government departments, including HM Treasury and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. As the Program Director of the nonprofit Interfaith Solar Campaign (ISC), I'm inviting you to learn about getting solar panels on your house of worship. Following years of service to my community in health care management, I am devoting my time to this effort to help faith-based communities benefit from solar energy, generating significant savings that help you in service to your community. We started ISC because we care deeply about the Earth. We are already helping many churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples to go solar, with this free gift of God’s Creation that communities of faith can harness for good. Our mission is to help your congregation generate your own solar-powered electricity to support your ministry and mission. New opportunities are making it easier than ever for faith-based communities to go solar. But if your congregation is like most, you may not know where to start or how to finance a solar project. We can help. To learn more, please join us for a free informational webinar on Thursday, March 21 at 11am Pacific Time, 2pm Eastern Time. Register here for “Faith Communities, Going Solar Together!” Our goal is to get the word out about your options and the support available, not to sell you anything. You’ll learn about: How your congregation can take tangible climate action while saving money, with solar panels on your roof or property. New financing options available only to communities of faith. How to make a solar project happen for your organization. You'll leave the webinar knowing how to get started on a solar project and how to get the support you need. We look forward to seeing you at the webinar! If you can’t attend, register anyway and we’ll send you the webinar recording. Register at: https://lnkd.in/gYTWKCzz
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: FAITH COMMUNITIES, GOING SOLAR TOGETHER!. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Worth a read. If you believe the scientists, we need to move much faster in our renewable energy transition but the necessary Federal legislation is stalled and the Massachusetts legislation, in its current form, doesn’t sufficiently address NIMBYs. #climatecrisis #electrification #renewableenergy
Researchers at Harvard’s Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability and MIT’s Roosevelt Project, led by Stephen Ansolabehere, the Frank G. Thompson Professor of Government, investigate the extensive delays compromising the expansion of our electricity grid, a critical step in meeting federal and state climate policies. Local opposition is a major factor, often resulting from grid developers routinely overlooking the communities that will host this new infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/eVsChuWe)

Addressing the environmental impact of solar panels. "when compared to fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, which still power approximately 40 percent of the UK’s electricity, solar energy clearly stands as a cleaner and more sustainable alternative." Take a positive step by harnessing the sun to power your home and reduce your carbon emissions, whilst saving money on your utility bills. 🌎 Be a part of the climate solution: learn from clean energy experts at the 2024 NYC Solar + Storage Summit! Around this time last year, the famous New York City skyline was shrouded in smoke from extensive Canadian wildfires; highlighting the far-reaching impacts of climate change. Increased temperatures, drought, and changing weather patterns are contributing to more intense wildfire seasons, doubling the number of large fires since 1984 (Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, n.d.). From the wildfires, New York City experienced the worst air quality in 20 years, serving as an alarm for rapid deployment of solar + storage to mitigate climate change (Accuweather, 2023). 🔋⚡️Join Sustainable CUNY Smart DG Hub, New York Solar Energy Industries Association (NYSEIA), and hundreds of clean energy professionals from the public and private sectors for a full-day conference focusing on the policies, programs, and solutions needed for NYC’s rapid and equitable decarbonization. ☀️ Check out our agenda and confirmed speakers on our webpage, and register now to contribute toward the City and State’s ambitious clean energy goals! https://lnkd.in/eY5AQ-N9 Event Details 🗽 NYC Solar + Storage Summit 🗓️ Thursday, June 27, 2024 📍 John Jay College Gerald W. What would be your ideal career choice on leaving school…. 4,000 young people said to BBC Bitesize that the top choices are perhaps predictable and attractive, but great to see “Construction” making a top-ten entry! If we are going to build (and retrofit) the sustainable and affordable homes and buildings we need, then this is great news. If we are to deliver the critical infrastructure and renewable energy that society will need then this can’t happen too soon. Looks like being happy and making a difference is what really matters… See: https://lnkd.in/evcSKXbk #sustainabilityleadership SDG 11
