📄Editors’ Choice in the June issue of the Canadian Journal of Animal Science In this comprehensive study, Dr. Isaac Aboagye and his co-authors assessed the lifecycle of Canadian beef from cradle to consumer plate, providing key benchmarks for the environmental impacts of an oft-maligned industry. Among other findings, Canadian beef cattle production now produces 15% fewer greenhouse gases than in 2014 and is on track to reach its 2030 goal of a 33% reduction in emissions. The milk process also known as the methods of milking requires several important steps, and the purpose of these steps is to elicit optimal milk letdown, minimize the chances of a cow contacting mastitis organisms during milking, and efficient milk removal. Milking animals refers to the process of extracting milk from dairy animals, such as cows, goats, sheep, and buffaloes. #GeneralAgriculture

A new study by Frances Cowley et al, co-authored by FutureFeed's Dr Rob Kinley and Breanna Roque, PhD, evaluated the effects of feeding varying amounts of an Asparagopsis-oil formulation to beef cattle. The levels of methane (CH4) yield were reduced by 64%, 98% and 99%, with the cows consuming the highest amount of Asparagopsis-oil recording the greatest reduction in methane. This study rounds out the body of peer-reviewed research showing the safety and efficacy of Asparagopsis for beef feedlots. Advocacy (my own opinion, not that of my employer). From the Animal Welfare Institute "In the United States, most meat, dairy, and eggs come from massive factory farms that are harmful to both animals and farmers. To provide a future beyond these mega-farms, Rep. Alma Adams (D-NC), Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) have introduced the Industrial Agriculture Conversion Act. This bill would establish a grant program to help farmers modify their operations to provide animals with access to the outdoors and enrichment, or convert their facilities entirely to produce organic or specialty crops. Join AWI and over 100 organizations in encouraging members of Congress to cosponsor this legislation and advocate its inclusion in the Farm Bill." #sustainability #ethics #farms #policy
