Despite the increasing number of people working in the health service, workforce growth in the NHS has not kept pace with rising patient demand. Nurses and other clinicians are under huge pressures. The need for wellbeing support is more keen than ever. Director of Policy at The King’s Fund, Sally Warren: "the NHS workforce is also encumbered with low staff satisfaction, ongoing industrial action, and many staff leaving the NHS due to poor work-life balance.” Her recommendation? Strengthening recruitment efforts and taking bolder action to improve retention. Recently, researchers at the University of Surrey created a new guide for health leaders on how to improve staff wellbeing. Professor Jill Maben, a professor of health services research and nursing at the University of Surrey and co-lead author of the guide said: “We need a whole systems approach and a whole organisational approach – this is everybody’s business.” She said nursing and midwifery could be “stressful [and] difficult professions” and, therefore, psychological health needed to be “planned from the minute students walk in the door”. At Nurses.co.uk we encourage all of our employer partners to boast about, promote and share all the good things they are doing to support staff wellbeing. Tell people why they should choose to work for you. #wellbeing #wellbeingatwork #nurses #nursing #retention

It's predicted a shortfall in nurses will continue to grow, with up to 100,000 less than Australia's healthcare system requires as soon as next year. Factors including our ageing population, the advancing median age of the current cohort and a slowing replacement rate for new sector entrants, are compounding the issue. It's why agencies like PeopleIN's VNS Nursing Agency provide such vital services and why the renewal of a tender to supply specialist nurses, midwives and support nurses to a major Victorian healthcare provider is so important. https://lnkd.in/gv4MtCSh #NursingShortage #SpecialistNurses #Tender #Flexibility
